just a reminder that carbon headtubes lose out to trees! Just swapped to DHX2 coil and went for a test ride at night and made an error, mis-timing a step down in the dark (WHY DID I EVEN TRY THAT?!).

Headtube made contact with a small tree off the side of the trail. Didn't realise the damage until the next ride when it sounded super creaky. Devastated for a 8 month old bike that I absolutely love.

Of course it's me, not the carbon but I've always had alloy bikes for this exact reason. Unsure if I will stay with the Slash+ as the same thing could happen again. It's a shame because it's a total beast of a bike but I now have quite serious carbon failure PTSD!

My ideal ebike has the TQ (for the great pedalling, quiet operation and lightweight motor+battery) + alloy frame + 160mm+ish rear travel

I may look at an alloy Fuel+ pimped out with a coil and special sauce setup (Fuel+ MX Long-Stroke: 163mm travel, 205x65mm shock) to take it's place. If there's any other contenders out there let me know. If only the Propain Sresh SL or Norco Sight VLT TQ came in alloy!

a moment of silence please, my Slash+ was just too good for this world.

New fuel+ coming with TQ 120nm, Dual battery + other goodies. unless you must have the TQ60
ooh! that's a crazy amount of power and interested to know how the dual battery works. Is this the 2028 perhaps I saw a pic of a pale yellow one? and the big question is, is it available in alloy?

theres 3 models listed but also in EX, MX and LX config's - all seem to be carbon so far.
If you take a look at the Fuel+ thread youll see more details... noone posted pics yet but its up on the Dealer website

thanks, good to know. in a way I'm not too fussed about extra nm, I've got the HPR50 and it keeps me in shape so when I jump on my analog enduro I've kinda still got it in me! Stuggle to keep up with my full power mates but I'll take the overall light weight of the bike over power any day, as long as I have the range for the whole ride that I mostly do.

That's a bummer! TBH I'm not sure alloy would have fared better, just less of an investment.

At least in the states, through official Trek stores, I've found their warranty to be very good. Good enough I have become brand loyal to them.

Yeah, you would have destroyed alloy in the same crash. That is minor damage and if you want, it easily can be repaired and made stronger.

That is the key advantage of carbon over alloy. Carbon can be repaired with basic hand tools. Alloy even if welded up requires full paint stripping and heat treatment to repair properly.
