Avinox M2s rattle

I just made a quick video, how my m2s sounds, but in trail with the Amflow frame its amplified a lot.

m2s rattle

I'm not a fanboy of anything, especially companys, these are my subjective opinions, i don't care what others experience, right now this is what i experience.

100% every M2s will have movement and some level of noise like that, zero noise would mean zero movement in the gears and serious tolerance issues and wear. Some might exhibit a bit more than others and even show more when hot, but 100% every motor will have some degree of movement. Complete lack of movement would indicate a binding gear system.

For anyone else wondering, a friend decided to send videos to Avinox support of the noise made by moving the chain ring back and fourth to expose the freeplay in the motor (as per the video on page 1). All our motors in our riding group have this to some level (M2 and M2s). And the response from support was this was normal, all motors (including the M2s) has some movement between gears, no movement would indicate too tight tolerances. So if you did get a motor changed under warranty expect a new one to be the same/similar.
Did you friend have the M2S motor? There will always be play with spur gear motor engagement and going about this way with Avinox Support, it's not surprising that they are coming back with a normative response. There is wiggle room (NPI) here with the M1 and M2 to say that's life, but not the M2S, as it was specifically designed to remove rattle. If the motor rattles while riding, it should be a warranty issue.

M2s, it doesn’t rattle when riding like the m1
Did, but that play in the gear set can invoke occasional noise from pedal kickback pulling on the gears. The M2s design cannot remove all rattle, any free play in the gear set can be invoked by kickback. The m1 could rattle without kickback, just from trail bounce on my old bike, that’s what the new design does, prevents free play induced rattle, but not kick back induced noise. Despite the marketing saying kickback noise had gone !.... not great in that respect

We will see about that...and again: Avinox said in a marketing video they eliminated the sound completely. So do a couple of reviewers. Question is, how many km they rode this motor. After changing to a new motor, I will keep you updated about the noise.

If you are right, this is a huge joke and I would be very disappointed. Then what is the mesh gear is all about?

I agree, I was expecting silent motor as you say what is the dual mesh for if not to stop kick back !

That noise is really bad.
Not even may old gen 4 today 35000km old, makes such a bad noise.

That sounds exactly like my Gen 4 Bosch.

I said on the vid below its a Kiox 300, its Kiox 400. I sent this private video to Boasc and they said to take it to a Bosch official repairer for assessment, the shop said there was nothing wrong, sounds like all Bosch  and charged me for the assessment.

For what its worth, I stripped the chainring interface on a massive pedal strike around the 18 month mark and in urgency to get a new chainring/spider, I went to my local Trek dealer and bought a steel Powerfly 1 piece chainring as it was all they had. Unbelievably it quietened the rattle by about 50%... the steel dampens the rattle that the alu spider resonates.

It was the best fix I got as nobody wanted to know.

Also for the record, my M1 Amflow is silent with 4500km on the clock. I used to ride singlespeed and need a quiet bike.

Have you submitted a warranty claim? "Normal wear and tear" would not be a defensible counter-claim when it comes to the M2S specifically.
