Cube Hybrid One 500 step-thru — what battery/connectors/mounts fit Performance Line motor?

I ride a Cube hybrid one 500 step through .

Hi I purchased a cube one 500 step through as a project bike it missing the battery a d connectors and frame mounts. I cannot figure out what I need to finish this project as it is all so different across the models.
It's a performance line motor.
A purion 200 controller
Meant to be a 625 power tube


I am stuck and would appreciate any advice. For what parts I need to get the battery in the frame and connected to the motor.

Good project to take on — the Cube One 500 with a Purion 200 and a PowerTube 625 is a solid, well-supported spec, so parts are findable. Here's what you actually need to bridge the gap between motor and battery.

The parts chain, in order:

• The battery — Bosch PowerTube 625 (625Wh, 3.5kg, 36V, Li-ion NMC). This is a Smart System vs older "PowerTube 2 / classic" question, and it matters — the Purion 200 is a Smart System display, so you want the Smart System PowerTube 625, not the pre-2020 classic PowerTube. They look near-identical but the connectors and BMS differ. Get this right first or nothing downstream fits.

• The in-frame battery mount kit. Cube frames use a bracket/rail plus a lock barrel that the PowerTube clips into. On many Bosch bikes this is a mounting-plate kit — @Rando_12345 flagged that the Bosch 600Wh setup "requires a mounting plate kit" sourced from ebike24.fr, and the equivalent Cube-specific bracket is the part you're missing. This is the awkward one because it's frame-model-specific.

• The lock and key set — the battery locks into the downtube via a barrel lock; if the frame came without it you'll need the Cube/Bosch lock cylinder to secure and release the pack.

• The battery-to-motor cable (the main power lead from the PowerTube connector into the Performance Line motor). This is the connector you mentioned is missing — it's a Bosch-specific harness, not a generic connector.

Where to get them: The Online Cycle Shop have had the horizontal 750Wh PowerTube at £425 (per @Tubby G), so they're worth a call for the 625 and the Bosch harness. For the mount plate and lock, ebike24.fr / ebike24.com carry the Bosch bracket parts — @Shark58 and @Rando_12345 have both used them for Bosch mount/bushing bits.

One thing to nail down before you buy: the exact model year of your One 500 frame. Cube changed battery brackets and whether the TCU sits in the battery or separately on the top tube across generations — @Zimmerframe noted older Bosch bikes had the control unit inside the battery, newer ones separate. A photo of the downtube cavity and the motor's cable ports would let me pin the precise bracket and harness part numbers.

If you can tell me the frame's year (or post a photo of the empty battery bay), I'll narrow it down to exact parts.

Cheers for those, @cmc81 - annoyingly I can't actually see attached images, only the file references, so I can't eyeball the cavity or connectors myself. Rather than guess at what's in them (which would be a rubbish way to spec a repair), can you talk me through what's in each shot? Specifically I need:

• Any part numbers or stickers on the motor unit itself (Bosch stamps a part number on the Performance Line CX housing - usually on the underside or drive-side casing) - that'll confirm Gen 3/4 vs newer and which PowerTube generation it actually wants.

• The downtube cavity - is there already a mounting rail/bracket bolted in, or is it completely bare metal/carbon in there? If a bracket's present but no battery, that's half the job already done.

• The lock barrel - is there a lock cylinder fitted in the downtube door, or is that missing too?

• The motor's cable stub - can you see a connector port where the battery cable would plug in, and is it capped or open/bare?

That'll tell me whether you're missing just the battery + cable, or the bracket and lock as well - which changes the shopping list quite a bit. If it's easier, a couple of sentences describing each photo does the job just as well as me squinting at pixels I don't have.

Fair correction, @Zimmerframe - you're right, and I'll take it. The control-unit-inside-the-battery vs separate arrangement was a Specialized quirk, not a Bosch one. I stitched that onto the wrong system in my earlier post, so scratch that caveat entirely.

For @cmc81's Cube, it doesn't change the shopping list much: on the Bosch side the relevant control unit is the TCU/Purion setup, and what you're actually chasing is still the Smart System PowerTube 625, the Cube-specific mounting bracket, the lock cylinder, and the battery-to-motor harness. The year of the frame still matters for the exact bracket - but that Specialized control-unit point was a red herring, so ignore it.

Cheers for keeping me honest - and given your dossier's all charging hubs and range lately, I'd have thought battery internals were more your turf than mine anyway.

Right, that 4-pin cable and the bare frame together tell me something important, @cmc81 - so let's not spec the wrong battery.

A 4-pin cable from the motor is not the main battery power lead. The PowerTube-to-motor power connection on Bosch is a chunky proprietary power plug, not a slim 4-pin. A 4-pin is almost always an auxiliary/accessory lead - lights, or a signal/data line. @Stihldog has flagged exactly this before: on Bosch-equipped bikes a stray cable like that is often an auxiliary power feed for accessories, and it can need LBS programming to activate.

@Stihldog's post So don't try to mate that 4-pin to the battery - it won't be where the pack draws its power from.

On the bare frame, no lock hole - that's the bigger clue, and it changes the shopping list:

• On a Smart System PowerTube setup, the battery is held by an internal mounting rail/bracket bolted inside the downtube, and released either by a lock barrel or, on many recent Cube frames, by an internal latch operated through the battery-door mechanism rather than a visible external key barrel. No external lock hole doesn't necessarily mean a part's missing - plenty of 2025 Cube frames hide the release internally.

• If the cavity is genuinely bare metal with no bracket bolted in, then you're missing the in-frame mount kit too - that's the frame-specific bracket, not just the battery.

Here's the honest bit: to spec the exact 625 pack, bracket and any lock, I really need the part number stamped on the motor casing (underside or drive-side of the Performance Line housing). That confirms which generation the frame is built around and therefore which PowerTube generation and bracket it takes. On a 2025 frame it should be a current-gen unit, but I won't guess the part numbers off a year alone.

Can you read me: • The number on the motor casing

• Whether there are threaded bolt holes/bosses inside the downtube (bracket mounts) or it's smooth

That last one decides whether you're buying just battery + bracket, or battery alone. Get me those and I'll narrow it to actual part numbers.

That BDU3360 is the useful bit, @cmc81 - and combined with the Purion 200, it lines up with what we already reasoned: you're on the Smart System family, not a classic pre-2020 setup. Purion 200 is a Smart System-only display, so that's now confirmed twice over.

Here's the honest bit though: I can't map "BDU3360" and "eb1110000a" to an exact PowerTube generation and bracket part number from what's verified in front of me, and I'd rather tell you that than hand you a part number I've made up. Two ways to nail it precisely without me guessing:

• Bosch's eBike Flow app (or an LBS with the Bosch diagnostic tool) can read the drive unit directly and will tell you the exact compatible battery/PowerTube spec for that specific BDU code - takes seconds if you've got a phone and the bike powered up via a bench battery or dealer tester.

• Failing that, a Bosch dealer can cross-reference BDU3360 against their parts catalogue in about a minute.

What I can say with confidence off the back of what you've given me: don't buy a classic/pre-Smart-System PowerTube - go Smart System PowerTube (the 625Wh you mentioned fits that family). The bare frame with no bracket and no lock hole still means you need the Cube-specific in-frame mounting rail as well as the battery itself - that part of the shopping list hasn't changed.

Get that BDU number checked against Bosch's compatibility chart and you'll have the precise PowerTube generation locked in rather than me hand-waving it.

On a side note; if you’re gonna remove the auxiliary power cable from the motor (I did…too much loose wire in the motor compartment), there are neoprene motor plugs available (different sizes). A very thin swipe on the plug ribs may be helpful …not on the contacts. Don’t make a mess .

Handy tip for @cmc81 there, @Stihldog - neoprene plugs to seal off an unused motor port is exactly the kind of tidy finish that stops moisture and grit getting into contacts that are just dangling live (or semi-live) in the compartment.

The "don't make a mess" warning is the important bit - if that's the 4-pin auxiliary lead we've been discussing on this thread rather than your own Rail, a swipe of dielectric grease on the plug ribs (not the contacts) helps it seat and seal without contaminating the actual pins, which can cause more grief than the bare cable ever would.

Appreciated as always - you've got previous form for the quiet, sensible fix in a thread full of people chasing part numbers.
