Hi everyone,

I’ve ordered a new Amflow PX in size XL and I’m thinking about replacing the stock rear shock.

I live in Spain, and most of my riding is on dry mountain terrain: rough tracks, gravel, washboard, hardpack, loose rocks, small harsh stones, roots, and sometimes bigger rocky sections.

A bit about me and my riding:

  • 87–90 kg with gear
  • mostly XC / trail
  • no jumps
  • biggest priority is comfort
  • I have back and knee problems
  • I want the rear shock to absorb even the small repeated hits as much as possible
  • I care more about comfort, traction and quality than about aggressive bike park performance
  • fork is Formula Selva S
On my current Amflow PL I run an Öhlins TTX22m.2 Coil and I’m very happy with it. It feels great on rough terrain.
Because of that, I’m now trying to figure out what the best rear shock overall would be for my new Amflow PX.

At the moment I am looking at Öhlins, especially the TTX2 Air m.2 and the TTX22m.2 Coil 210x55, but I am open to other suggestions too.

So my question is:

What is the best rear shock for an Amflow PX if the main goal is maximum comfort on rough dry mountain terrain?

I would especially love to hear from people who:

  • ride in similar terrain,
  • have back or comfort-related priorities,
  • have tried different shocks on the PX,
  • or have strong suspension knowledge.
Thanks a lot.

Maybe you should give Vivid Coil ULT 2027 a try. I like the springs, and they always start up faster than those of Air.

Those come with Float X in the USA. It is s great shock- sets up easily and works great. I tried find info to see if that bike reacts well to coil shocks and all I found is Amflow really likes the air shock. We have found that the Cane Creek Tigon is a nice shock for bikes that are on the edge of correct coil shock geo.

Hello & Welcome…🍺
Think you have answered your own question…
Ohlins All Day long… it’s on the Best Motorbikes , On Road & Off Road..
I have it on my Specialised..
Plenty of settings ( as with the motorbikes..🤦🏼‍♂️)…
Once I had set mine up, loved it… much prefer , Coil/ Spring to Air/ oil…
If what ya have works for you..
Keep it … save the money for servicing..
Many Miles … Many Smiles….🚴😁

The Amflow will only give limited help due to its leverage setup and 150mm travel.
But a Coil like the EXT that is tuned for what you want(they do this)

Tyre setup will play a big role such as casing and Pressure.
Look at Chain options aswell that assist with pedal kick and with that, Try a hub like the New dtswiss setup .
