I saw a new (ist) carrier + LIFTER - which elegantly lifts the ebike onto the roof for easy carriage, no power: uses a hydraulic cyclinder/spring.

The damper/spring takes all the weight. BUT a carry + ebike could be 42kg (30 bike, 12 carrier) each side, that is a large mass/stress on one side, it will affect small cars, even overload that side; maybe not a Mercedes estate, like shown here:

What do you think?

I also considered an "easy" solution for transporting an e-bike on the roof, but weight remains the main problem. Between the bike and the mounting system, the load quickly becomes quite heavy, especially when handling it alone.

Pendle carriier. Yes you have to lift the bike on. But it's all sold steel. Used to use a 26kg giant reign on it with zero issues

I can only imagine having that mercedes scratched by the pedals of my bikes

That is a cunning stunt from an engineering point of view. But, putting heavy e bikes on a roof of a car is an unbearably stupid idea!
