I saw a new (ist) carrier + LIFTER - which elegantly lifts the ebike onto the roof for easy carriage, no power: uses a hydraulic cyclinder/spring.
The damper/spring takes all the weight. BUT a carry + ebike could be 42kg (30 bike, 12 carrier) each side, that is a large mass/stress on one...
