Rockshox lyric question

I recently did a 200 hour service on my lyric forks and since then after each ride I get a thin coating of oil on the stanchions. I bought my bike in 2018 so I’m assuming these are 2018 forks. I have noticed that in the 2017 service guide there is no mention of adding oil to the upper tubes, whereas in the 2018 service guide it says add 3mm of oil to the upper tube. I’m wiping the excess oil off after each ride but I’m wondering if I should remove the lowers and get rid of the oil in the upper tubes. Any suggestions?

More than likely it's the foam washers depositing oil & will fade as they dry out, assuming you have serviced it correctly & soaked the washers before installing. Even if not, lube is no bad thing & you shouldn't worry unless you suspect a leaking damper & that would imply seeing oil only on the riders right stanchion.

Tip the bike upside down and leave it overnight. If they leak its defiantly not the sponge rings (no hydraulic action). Maybe its time for new seals.

I’ve turned bike upside down and will inspect tomorrow. I assume you mean the dust seals, which I did replace along with the foam rings. As I said the 2018 manual says add 3ml of oil into top tube and there are no seals as such, just the foam rings. As rusty said, the fact that it is on both sides suggest that it’s not a leak of oil from the dampers. I can’t see how oil from the lowers could get up and leak past the foam rings
