    Pic of the Day

Enjoying the super-bloom in nor-cal. We get about 5 minutes of greenery before everything turns golden brown (Joaquin Miller Park, Oakland CA).

Anyone use Flexx Bars to mitigate wrist pain?

Hi all, I suffer from wrist pain probably due to undiagnosed Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) and a couple previous fractures. I've tried a few different handlebar bends and grips which helped, but I still get pain & numbness especially on longer chunky downhills. I use Flexx Bars on my...

Why does giant use KMC chains with Shimano?

I also broke the stock KMC chain rather quickly and replaced with XT. the shifting is noticeably smoother and so far it’s lasted about 4x longer, and still going.

New Zeb 2023 doesn't stay at full extension

If these were motorcycle forks it would likely indicate a bad air seal. Hope it resolves itself!

With the old 150 fork I kept it in the low/slacker position. Now with the 170 I prefer it in the high position for added clearance from crank strikes.

    Fork choice?

+1 to this. The 35RL is essentially a disposable fork that you can't upgrade. Going from an economy fork to mid-range fork is a massive difference (for example moving from a 35RL to a base-model Zeb/Pike/Lyrik, base-model Fox 36/38, or Marzocchi z1 which is essentially a Fox 36). Going from a...

    Fork choice?

As someone who rode the better part of a Year on the 35RL, I‘d recommend upgrading. I swapped mine for a mid-level fork (Marzocchi Z1) and the difference was profound. The 35 series is an overall harsh fork that I couldn’t get to work right. It had a noticeable ‘klunk’ at the top of the stroke...

    Here’s the new fork:

    giant trance x e+ 3 2022

I agree, much better all around, it seems that Giant should have specified a 160 or 170 instead of the 150 my Trance came with. Only slightly lighter front wheel while climbing steep sections, but more stability everywhere else. I have the e+ 3 so it came with the 35 RL Gold fork. That fork...

    giant trance x e+ 3 2022

Nice bike! I’m not sure if the geometry is the same as my 2021 trance, but I also upgraded the fork to 170mm and find it a big improvement. I went with a Bomber Z1 air.

    Pic of the Day

I was out riding dirt bikes in Death Valley and found myself looking for e-MTB trails. Has anyone ridden out there? Seems a bit too loose and sandy for ebikes.

What did you buy your ebike this week?

That was my primary concern, however going from 150-170 didn't have a big impact on handling. Whilst the front end feels a bit lighter during steep climbs, it's a very subtle change. However downhill performance improved considerably by slackening the geometry, it's more stable and takes hard...

    Magicshine ME 2000, Trance X e+ 3

Tis the season for lights and fenders! I don't notice any drop in range with the light on, even at full brightness for longer durations. LEDs these days are very efficient. The max lumens is probably just a generalization, I think it has more to do with the efficiency of the light itself and...

    Magicshine ME 2000, Trance X e+ 3

    1. Unless you're a surgeon you'll most likely need to remove the battery mount to get to the stock connector, it takes the "hollow" torx wrenches (security screw). Likewise for the side grommet, that needs to come out. I needed to enlarge the grommet a little with a drill to accommodate the new...

What did you buy your ebike this week?

Finally reached the end of my patience with the stock Rockshox RL 35 Gold 150 and upgraded to a Marzocchi Bomber Z1 Air 170. Best upgrade so far for my Giant Trance X! Review here if you're interested.
