Hello I'm John. Just starting mountain biking at 56 years old. I thought I'd be the only old fart but it appears not ! :D

Do the forum members have meet up's? I'd be really interested in attending if so.
I wouldn't mind being shown the ropes around Swinley Forest...

Welcome to the forum.

I live in Reading too and am a regular around Swinley, so if you want a meet up please feel free to give me a shout. I'm not an instructor but have been riding MTB/Moto-cross for years so may be able to impart a bit of wisdom if needed (or required)

I'm pretty sure it's a fact that E-MTB has given us older guys a new lease of life, and at 52 I'm so loving the enthusiasm for MTB my Levo has given me.

Thats the thing with ebikes, they are ideal for all us old farts to pedal about on and pretend we are still young.

Fair point but I just cant wait to get started. I've planned a 30 mile ride straight from the shop.

Hi John,
At the current time, Sunday's and Monday's are good for me too. Was going to head up there tomorrow if you want to meet up? I know for you it's 'new bike day' so I'll completely understand if you'll just want to prop it up and stare at it for a while rather than ride it :D

Ta Phil but I'm picking the bike up at Newbury. I'm going to ride up on the Downs and then take the Ridgeway down into Goring. Hope the battery lasts...
If your about next Sun / Mon I would defo meet up with you.

I bought the Levo Comp.
Couldn't really afford it but F ' it ?
Monday week would great for me .
Not sure how I'll go on ,on the trails but Im about to find out.
If Monday suits you let me know and we'll arrange a time. Afternoon best for me.
Is your bike a Specialized?

I have a Specialized Levo Comp Carbon, so pretty similar to yours.

We can start off nice and easy on the trails, I'm not expecting you to hit the black runs straight away, especially if you've not done much off-road stuff before.

Hey John, welcome to the forum! There are plenty of older riders, are you on Facebook at all? There are a few groups that are a bit more fluid with organised meet-ups than here, specifically the SFMB, Fleet MTB and Surrey Hills groups ??

If you have a non ebike, sell it, you'll never ride it again!

I took my non ebike out for a ride on Saturday trying to convince myself I'm still one of the purists, I was kidding myself.

Six months ago before I got my ebike bike, my fitness, strength and stamina was pretty bloody good for my 55 years. Now I really struggle and notice a huge difference between to two, my non ebike is up for sale, now I'm just waiting for us to say our goodbyes and part company.

I've got a hybrid and I've told myself I'll use it when I go out with him. Time will tell ..
