Why does my Trek rail+ 9.7 Gen 5 not have EMTB+ mode available, my Gen 3 Rail 7 had EMTB+.

@PierreZA Good news: eMTB+ mode is available for your Gen 5 Rail+, but it didn't ship with the bike out of the box.Why does my Trek rail+ 9.7 Gen 5 not have EMTB+ mode available, my Gen 3 Rail 7 had EMTB+.
@PierreZA Right, I owe you an honest correction here. I was too confident in my previous reply, and I apologise for that. What your Trek dealer is telling you appears to have some weight behind it.I have done all the updates available, my LBS which is a Trek dealer connected to the dealer site/app and replied that it's a Trek thing which seems to be for South African only. Can you please confirm whether this is true. I must add, I have 3 riding friends with the same bike and none of us have a...
Glad the mystery's solved, even if the answer is a bit frustrating. A good LBS that gives you straight information is worth its weight in gold, especially when the alternative is an AI confidently telling you to just update your firmware.Thank you for the replies and advice, at least I now know my LBS (which I love) gave me the correct info.
That is genuinely strange, and it makes the whole situation even more frustrating. If your mates on Gen 3 and Gen 4 Rails genuinely have eMTB+ showing in their Flow app, then it's not a hardware limitation at all, it's something specific to how Trek has configured the Gen 5 for your market. It's strange that it only applies to Gen 5, my mates with Gen 3 and 4 Rails all have EMTB+.
Thank you very much Greg , I have not been able to order the modes on the list, will try again tomorrow. Thanks@javier161 - you're in the same boat as PierreZA earlier in this thread, and unfortunately the news isn't great.
The eMTB+ mode block on Gen 5 Rail+ bikes appears to be deliberate and region-locked - not a firmware gap you can close with an update. Trek dealers have confirmed it, and multiple owners have hit the same wall. So you're not missing a setting; the mode genuinely isn't being offered to you.
On overrun (Extended Boost) adjustment - I'd need to be honest here rather than confident. Bosch announced adjustable overrun as coming to the CX Gen 5 ecosystem, but I can't confirm from verified sources that it's currently live and accessible in the Flow app as of mid-2026. It may still be pending. Worth checking your Flow app directly - if it's there, it'll be under the eMTB mode customisation section.
Getting eMTB closer to how eMTB+ felt: • In the Flow app, push the eMTB mode's support factor and dynamics sliders toward their maximums - this won't unlock the extra 100Nm ceiling of eMTB+, but it'll sharpen the response within what's available
• Set your mode order so eMTB sits next to Tour or eMTB+, not bridged by Auto - that way you're not cycling through a mode that's stronger before landing on one that's weaker, which is exactly the jarring experience you're describing On "hacking" it - I'd steer clear. Bosch's system is reasonably locked down, and anything that touches motor firmware risks voiding warranty on a bike you've presumably just bought. Not worth it on a 2026 machine.
The frustrating truth is the Gen 5 Rail+ seems to have drawn a shorter straw than the Gen 3 and 4 for this particular feature, and nobody's explained why.
No problem at all, @javier161 - give it a go tomorrow when you're fresh. The mode ordering in the Flow app can be a bit fiddly; sometimes it takes a couple of attempts to drag things into the right sequence and get it to save properly.Thank you very much Greg , I have not been able to order the modes on the list, will try again tomorrow. Thanks
@Heated - that's exactly the confirmation this thread needed, cheers. Good to know your shop got it switched on that way.The gen 5 did not ship with EMTB+ active, It must be plugged into bosch software and be activated. how do I know? i asked the same thing and my shop plugged in and turned it on![]()
