is it in fact true that u can use a phone vpn to simply set the dji system to new zealand location? if yes will it just hold that setting? does the system have a gps within it that it can use to determine its location on its own?

Yes. The bike uses the phone's VPN region when you pair it to the bike, to set the bike's region. It doesn't use the GPS.

Once paired, the bike will hold that region, unless you unpair it from the phone, and re-pair it, with the phone connected to a different region.

The pairing to NZ does derestrict speed--I got up to 32mph! However, at least in the US, you cannot enable cloud services via the 4G SIM card. I had to pair the bike back to a US server to get the cloud services to work.

I’m assuming it’s a “nice to have” rather than a “must have”, but if I remember correctly it also has some inbuilt features that only work if connected to the network (GPS navigation?)

The main benefit of the cloud services is tracking your bike if it’s stolen. It also automatically uploads your ride data to Strava. If I find I need more than 20mph on the trail I can always derestrict to NZ for a few days.

you are lucky in the UK we are restricted to 15mph, Kin sketchy when it cuts in leading up to a jump, I might try to get USA but unsure what else it would effect? also not confident to do it

Me and my two friends on DJI motors ran the US limit, perfect for the UK. I found the NZ one too much

Sim. A bicicleta usa a VPN do celular quando você o emparelha com a bicicleta para definir a região dela. Ela não usa o GPS.

Uma vez emparelhada, a bicicleta manterá essa região, a menos que você a desemparelhe do telefone e a emparelhe novamente, com o telefone conectado a uma região diferente.

I’ve ordered an Avinox-powered bike in Australia. I’m planing to use USA, HK or NZ location (via VPN) for a reasonable top speed (thanks for the instructions!).

I’d also like to use a SIM for the additional security. Is it a 100% guarantee that this will undo the false location? I’ve obviously read that this is the case for some, but wondered if it’s hit and miss.

I live in the USA and am running the NZ VPN and a SIM card. However, I did have to repair to NZ after installing the SIM. I have been running trouble free sinve then (12 months ago).

I believe there should be a legitimate and legal way of doing this in these cases.
Whilst it doesn't affect me (being from the Lord's own land - NZ), I do see how people using these on private property and home-built trails would need to circumvent the local programming to make them fit for use in their own circumstances.
