Makes a lot of sense for Bafang to vertically integrate battery manufacture into their own supply chain, and farming out a separate division allows greater adoption elswhere. Despite the focus on batteries for electric motorcycles, eBike hemisphere will benefit too.

Giant like everyone else will design a new proprietary product so consumers will 'upgrade'. Few ever retrospect new technology into old product. The world runs on profit.

(They used some Bafang photos in their 'factory tour').

Having just rolled out new 400/430Wh slimline batteries with 22700 cells, they will need a few years to get the ROI before the next generation units. With potentially 6000Mah cells on horizon, plenty of scope for this profile for a few years.

In general, Giant is using good batteries but they are nothing extraordinary in terms of power/energy density.

22700 format is somewhat a non standard size, manufactured by Panasonic, mainly. Giant uses Panasonic cells/electronics in their batteries for quite a while. But to be frank, I don't see this as a good idea. Most advancements in li ion tech are brought in 21700 cylindrical form, not 22700. That would limit max performance/cell and also cell supply. Cost/Wh is also significant higher using those cells.

I wonder if this is why they still haven't announced a 2026 trance e+ or trance advanced e+ with the new yamaha 48v motor....

Local Giant dealer told me their new trail / all mountain eMTB will release under a new name, something interesting is coming up, but I have no information.

Let's hope Giant are going back to full power / 800wh battery ebikes as their venture into ''SL'' eMTBs with 400wh/560wh battery wasn't very popular.
