What chainrings ya mofo's using

Ideally i want something that is light AF and last forever.

Preferably alloy and one piece.

I've been using a E thirteen and that's lasting around 1000km before its grinding and fubar.
What other options are out there.

PS I'm on bosch Gen 5 and make 55 or 53mm chain line work.

Dunno about light but I’m on an Absolute Black steel chainring. It has been bomb proof taking many rock smacks in Scotland & Wales and still looks brand new after 5 years. Was pretty spendy though…..
 
How much are you going to save in weight?

I go through alloy rings (Raceface and Wolftooth) on my pedal enduro quicker than I'd like. Probably 1 every year, at $60-80 each. Their wear also contributes to chain and thus drivetrain wear. OTOH, I have a Shimano 30T steel ring I've had across 4 short-travel bikes with a few thousand miles and it looks mint.

No way I'd be buying an alloy ring for my eMTB... save weight elsewhere.

Ohh thats interesting. I hadn't thought about a super hard steel ring mated with a light alloy spider. Thats still light at just over 100 grams but likely a lot more hard wearing than 7075 alloy.

Like I said it’s a spendy setup but has been super durable and a worthwhile investment overall.

Use Hope alloy chain rings, change them at the same time as the cassette after 3 chain changes.

I’m gonna stick with the alloy ethirteen 34t chainring. I can barely get 2-3k out of one …but it works and it fits.

My original chainring (Bontrager I think) developed chain suck. Switched to ethirteen and stayed with it. I like the one-piece design but I had to modify the “O” ring on the motor. (Alignment was the issue).

No chain-suck though. But, I use a Shimano XT cassette, SRAM AXS derailer, Shimano 8100 chainring, Shimano guide wheel, ethirteen 34t alloy chainring.

I think I broke some rules. 🤷🏼‍♂️
 
well crap just fitted an e13 34t chainring to the eeb, the old one lasted just over 800 miles. I sure would like to buy one next time that will last much longer.
 
I stripped the teeth on my Bosch Gen 4 spider/motor interface after a massive pedal strike.

Wanting to get riding again quickly, I went to a local Trek dealer and bought a 'temporary' spider in steel as it was all they had... thinking I would order same aluminium spider in the following days.

Unexpectedly the steel ring dampened the chainring rattle and just about halved the Gen 4 motor noise. Its still there doing a better job than the noisy alloy ring.

I'm in a real muddy enviroment over winter which burns through drive train faster. I am now also wondering if the alloy front ring wears sooner and then starts stretching the chain sooner, thus wearing out my casssette sooner. Anyway, i'll try that absolute black idea. It looks fruity which suits my flash git status and will likely last longer than that alloy ring thus i should have less chain stretch sooner.... we will see.

I think you’re right. Even though we ride almost every day our terrain mostly loamy, then rooty, then rocky. I’m sure that has something to do with the durability of the drivetrain. Also, we don’t have the thick mud conditions. 😱

But we’ve got rain. (Small World Problems)
 
Steel chainrings seem to work best for me, not worried about the weight

Yeah Definitely. Those guys that live an or ride in dry environments have drive trains that last for 1000's of km.
 
Steel is the way to go here. The cassette gets wear spread out over multiple gears whereas the front chainring is getting all of the wear all of the time.
 
Do you rotate your chains? I have 3 chains that I swap between every 500kms. Not only does each chain last 1500kms+, but the cassette and chainring also lasts forever.
