The problem with the Fazua motor is they had some reliability problems that eventually made their way into some bike review testers, so it became quite public. Once that happened manufacturers stopped using them for the most part. Fazua seemed to have fixed the initial reliability problems but it was too late.

So, it sounds like Pon owned a chunk of Fazua at some point (or almost did), so I wouldn't be surprised to see them become the company to take it over.

It felt like mine was in the shop more than out of it. The final straw was when Fazua said the frame design meant the bend radius was too tight. The shop and importer gave me a refund
 
I have three friends with Fazua powered bikes and non of them have had problems. Well one guy had a sensor go out. Easy fix. They all really like the motor. personally I think if Fazua could have upped the power just a little and had a bigger battery option it's pretty appealing here in the PNW IMO.
 
My riding buddy and I have these motors on our Decoys, first motor had a few gremlins turned off numerous times on its own, reset and back to life but always knew the bike could strand me on any ride. The original motor died after 9 months of hard riding, rattle can sound, a known failure for fazua and they replace without question. The replacement died after 1 ride, the second replacement is going strong 10 rides in. Similar experience for my friend. We have a terrific dealer that gets motors in rapid time. Very helpful moving forward. I hope that doesn't change

They also never released and kept pushing back the Range Extender so I lost all faith in the company so ignored bikes with it. I was quite interested in the Ari Nebo Peak, but with the vaporware of the RE and then the reliability concerns, that was the nail in the coffin and time to look elsewhere.

Makes me wonder what manufactures will switch to? Stay mid-powered and go to TQ (next gen HPR90?) or just switch to full power like the Avinoix. Perhaps the Maxon Air-S will be looked at for that not quite full power but everything a MTBer needs motor?

The mid power motors really dont save much weight vs the M2S. It's all batteries. IMO Avinox should release a smaller battery option. A removable 400wh and a turned down M2S would be a good combo for lighter builds.

Not to mention the public who bought the bikes with Fazua motors, and all their friends who rode with them, and all the folks who threw their legs over the bikes. If a company is building a sub-par product, it's hard to keep it a secret.
 
I don't think I've had such bad customer service. Waiting weeks for a motor that didn't fix it. Then the same for the battery, harness, etc
Followed by a complete replacement which failed after a couple of months, same drawn out diagnostic process again followed by replacement which failed during the shops test ride.

I had 3 Fazua 60 bikes: Shuttle SL, Heckler SL, Ari Nebo Peak; the last 2 bought after hearing they had fixed the issues. All developed motor or battery problems that required replacement and downtime. I've now ridden over 3000 miles combined on Shuttle SL/AM and Transition Regulator SX, with no problems from the Bosch SX. The assist (after firmware update) is better than Fazua, and any difference in noise is certainly not bothersome. Further, the PowerMore 250 range extender is readily available.
 
Strange that they are just shutting it down rather than trying to sell. It's going to be very tough for any bike brands using it. Stock they won't be able to sell, moulds that are scrap (unless they can modify to use TQ or Maxxon) and customers that are going to expect a whole new frame and alternate drive train if/when the Fazua has a problem.
Could be very hard on Canyon coming straight after the battery issue that most have cost them a lot too.
I think Porsche are really struggling, they sold their entire stake in Bugatti the other day too.

Canyon don’t have any Fazua emtbs.
 
I'm on my second season on an Ari Nebo with the Fazua ride 60. In my case, I almost never use the motor above a 120w (Breeze, 1 to 1) power level. So far, I'm happy with the system. It's quiet, with no rattle on descents. Hopefully, since I use it at such low power settings, it'll last. I'm in Utah and use it as I use my donut powered bike. Most of my riding is above 7000 feet with climbs up to the ridgeline which is 9800 feet here. I can currently get around 35 miles and over 4000' of climbing on it. To go farther than that, I need an extender on my sit bones and an ibuprofen injector for my joints more than a battery extender. OTOH, I'm always up for dropping more $$$ on a new bike. Also, I'm 74, so, unlike someone younger, I'm not using it to shuttle insane downhills. I'm the "little old gentleman from Pasadena" (apologies to The Beach Boys) I guess.

I agree. Could be the ultimate SL option down the road (down the trail?)

It's about half a kg, over a pound. Might not seem much on a 22kg "lightweight" but once you are down in the 20s that's 5% which is huge.
 
FORMER heckler sl owner. First motor replaced after 2 weeks of riding. Second motor lasted for almost a year. 3-6 motors were very quick succession failures. The bikes was the best riding emtb I owned but was so unreliable I couldn’t trust it. Ruining a weekend destination biking trip was the last straw. Lbs was super helpful and fazua was very quick about sending motors. Santa Cruz stood behind the product too. They even pulled motor from production line for the first failure as fazua was going to be 3-4 weeks for the first motor. In the end Santacruz offered me a bullet at a heavy discount and I was able to sell the heckler and not lose too much money. I’m glad I had Santa Cruz instead of a smaller manufacturer as I’m sure it would have been a bigger hit to bottom line for companys like pivot or transition.
Worst part of whole thing is I convinced 3 riding buddies after first motor failure that problem was fixed and fazua emtb are good machines! Hopefully there is back stock of motors in some random warehouse that we can draw down over next decade!?

Maybe they are selling it. The article makes somewhat contradictory statements on the Fazua point.

"access to spares" isn't exactly the same as "warranty support". My worry would be that Porsche are used to the automotive model of just replacing things until it works again and make good profit on the parts in the process.

Yeah that's what I was wondering , if the spares dry up where does that leave you. In the UK you'd have a contract with the shop who would be responsible to get you a replacement, that's the situation I found myself in.
The shop and saddleback (the uk importer) said I could have pretty much whatever I wanted to replace the shuttle SL from their ranges, but the only real alternative was a Levo SL (the shop also do specialized) which was on a 6 month wait and still around 1.5 to 2 kg heavier. Ended up with a Vala which was available but heavier again, I do like it but I miss the Shuttle.
 
There's a Facebook post below saying they are going to maintain warranty support and spares supply.
