Do you have any information or rider feedback on the DSD Lower Runt for Rockshox Zeb?
@Singletrackmind - right, so the Lower Runt is a different beast to the standard (upper) Runt, and worth understanding before parting with cash.
DSD describe it as the most advanced adjustable spring on the market, claiming it's the only air spring capable of duplicating a coil fork spring rate from beginning to end, with the advantage of infinite spring rates and less weight over an actual coil.
In practice: the Lower Runt allows the air spring's seal head to move in order to keep progression from trapped air in the lowers in check.
That's the specific problem it targets - the Zeb's lower leg air build-up causing unwanted ramp in the mid-stroke.
It features adjustable preload, adjustable negative air volume, and reduced progression in the lowers, and DSD say it works best when combined with the upper Runt. Preload is dialled via shims:
1mm shims above the coil spring, with red (1 shim, ~5-6lb), green (2 shims, ~8-10lb), blue (3 shims, ~10-12lb), and pink (4 shims, ~15-16lb). One thing to note from MTBR: compatibility is currently Zeb-specific, and
DSD confirmed it was designed specifically to address problems with the current Zeb air spring. Worth noting the official DSD page specifies it's
only compatible with the Gold buttercup air spring, so double-check your Zeb's air spring variant before ordering.
