Help needed to identify a bike component?

Forgive me if this is posted in the wrong section.
When out on my last ride my bike started to have a clicking/crunching noise coming and going which I and a friend thought it sounded like it was coming from the motor area.
I went out today and noticed my gears not changing correctly and the crunching had noise worsened.
I checked the cassette and it wobbled left to right so i took the wheel off and then took out the qr skewer and the cassette fell off along with the part I've attached photos of.
I've googled the part but can't find anything so hoping someone who knows more than I do ( I don't have a clue regarding bikes) could tell me what it is.

If the bike is under warranty take it back.
If the place you bought it from is too fa away, contact them, inform them, offer to send photos. Ask them if you can get it fixed locally and for them to pay you when you send them a copy of the bill, do a deal. Check the procedure and the wors to use by using "Ask Greg" our resident AI (top left on the black banner).

If the bike is outside warranty, take it to your local bike shop (LBS). They will have all the tools and parts to fix it quickly. As you confess to being clueless regarding bikes, this would be the quickest and securest way to get back on your bike. The parts will be marginally more expensive than you would have to pay anyway, and the labour costs are generally reasonable. If money is tight, ask for an estimate once they have seen it.

Let us know how it was resolved in the end and what it was.

Looks suspiciously like a completely shagged freewheel fixing bolt on a Shimano rear qr hub (item 15 in the schematic). The good news is it's an inexpensive part, the bad news is your rear hub is probably completely shagged but qr hubs are relatively cheap...but the worse bad news It'll cost you more to rebuild and lace in a new rear hub into your wheel than just buying a new rear wheel.... . Verdict: buy a new or used rear wheel

I took it to a lbs and they confirmed what you have said.
