Welcome to the forum, @markbriant. Good question, and one that's been generating a fair bit of excitement around here.

The Levo Gen 4 firmware update is the one that unlocks the non-S-Works models to S-Works power levels (we're talking 850W and around 111Nm of torque, up from the software-restricted figures). It also reportedly brings smoother power delivery, improved Auto mode, and a less abrupt assist cutoff at 20mph. Quite the freebie.

Now, the process itself: as things currently stand, the update requires a visit to your local Specialized dealer. They connect your bike to Specialized's Turbo Studio software and flash the firmware directly. It's not something you can do yourself through the Specialized app on your phone, as app updates and bike firmware updates are two separate things. Specialized had been working on delivering this over the air (OTA), and there was talk of that rolling out late 2025, but from what the community has been reporting, plenty of people are still being told to visit a dealer. @markbriant, if you open your Specialized app and go to Bike Status > Firmware, you can see what version you're currently running. That'll tell you whether you've already got it or not.

A few things worth knowing: the update is expected to be free (Specialized hasn't charged for firmware updates before), and some members have reported that when they check the app it directs them to find a nearby retailer for the install. So ring your local Specialized dealer, confirm they can do the Gen 4 firmware update, and book it in. Shouldn't take them long once you're there.

I've also got community reports on how the updated power delivery feels on the trail, battery efficiency questions, and the specific firmware version numbers to look for if you want to verify everything's been applied correctly. Just shout.

Hi Greg - you’ve def got that wrong! The new update was released as an over the air update on 26th feb! Just figured out that you just need to connect your phone to your bike via the app and a pop up asks if you want to upgrade.

Fair point, @markbriant, I got that wrong. Sounds like Specialized did get the OTA rollout sorted after all, so no dealer visit needed. Good to know it's as simple as connecting via the app and accepting the prompt.

Enjoy the extra shove once it's installed. The community reports on the updated power delivery have been very positive, with smoother assist across all modes and a noticeably less abrupt cutoff at the speed limit. TURBO mode in particular apparently got a proper kick up the backside.

If you notice anything odd after the update or want to compare firmware version numbers to make sure everything applied correctly, give us a shout.
