SRAM Maven B1: Same Power, Better Delivery, and Upgrade Kits from £65

Nobody questioned the power from them, it's the strongest brake SRAM have made.

Has anyone done the lever upgrade on the Mavens? What are the performance differences as far as lever feel, modulation and power?

Yeah I really want to hear some non promo reviews on the new b1. I’m close to pulling the trigger on some mavens for my build and now have to decide between the OG and these new b1s.

Like to hear if the modulation is improved over the hard bite point. I changed out the pads on the front with some MTX ceramic/resin pads and that helps a bit. Sintered metal bite and are noisy.

I’m contemplating giving these a try. They appear to be sold-out at the moment with an estimated availability of March 12.

I'll definitely be trying these, unless some reviews come out and call them terrible before they restock. More modulation and lighter throw just sounds good.

The Pinkbike review seems pretty level headed. This chart from the article is interresting.

Has anyone found these listed anywhere in the UK? One retailer has the version marked as being suitable for Ultimate/Silver levers, but mine are Bronze and I can't seem to find anywhere listing them even with a 'Coming soon' label.

Balfes bikes has them listed for bronze, silver and ultimate. I’ve just ordered a set for my maven silvers this morning

SRAM Brake Lever Tuning Kit - Aluminum Lever Light Action Cam includes Aluminum lever Cam bushings - Maven Bronze A1 brakes

I just ordered the kit for the Maven Bronze brakes. Estimated delivery in 2-6 days. I'll post my thoughts on them once I get a ride in with them in place.

I was under the impression that the tuning kits on the existing a1's will make them worse for modulation ?

Where did you order them? Please let us know how they feel. I love these brakes but they do take some getting use to. Ive almost thrown myself over the bars a couple times. They are so on or off.

I ordered them from the Lost Co. I just received an email today that they were back in stock. Move fast because last time I got the notice, they were gone before I could order.

I'm hoping to alleviate the light-switch power with these.

Is this the kit?

Supposedly, the brake lever tuning kit is supposed to make the levers action more progressive rather than full-on at the touch of the lever. Now, this could all just be industry hype but, at $69, I thought I'd give them a try.

A few weeks ago I asked Greg to compare the Base Maven with the Bronze ones. Among other things it had a view on "Feel":

Maven Base:
  • Feel: Immediate power, often described as having a more "binary" on-off, Shimano-like feel.
Maven Bronze:
  • Feel: More progressive, allowing better modulation before maximum power is reached.

That's backwards.

I ride in pretty steep terrain. I simply would prefer a brake system with more power. Leaves a bit to be desired for me.
FWIW, SRAM describes the B1 as a more Code like feel but with more power. That for me, who feels like you about Codes is an immedidate turn off or at least I'm not jumping in to buy immediately bc I'm very happy with my A1's. The steak sauce too.

I appreciate that info! I have been wondering if I should pick up the original mavens with the 19.5mm pistons and then do the upgrade for the b1 levers.

That setup supposedly adds free stroke, which I can only think is desirable in some finite cases. "Feel" is so subjective that honestly I'll reserve final judgement until more people get time on them and I can try them myself. When set up correctly the A1 is great. Perhaps because I've used them for over 2 years I've just gotten used to the lever feel.

interesting, I have Maven silver (bought about 2 weeks after release) and Maven Ultimate (green colour things bought when released ~ 8 months ago???) and they both have a different feel, the silver is 'harder' whereas the ultimate is smoother - could be down to the bleed🤷‍♂️
power wise they're identical BUT are different cylinder sizes compared with the bronze and base I believe:unsure:

agreed(y)

for the record, I like code rsc brakes except for their regular need for bleeding
