Good question for a new member to kick off with. The short answer is that any authorised Bosch dealer in the USA can perform the firmware update through the Bosch eBike Systems diagnostics tool. It's not something you can do yourself via the consumer app; it requires the dealer-level software.Hi does anyone know who will do the USA software update on gen 5 bosch motor?
Sorry, a bit more detail. I'm in the UK, and only ride trails no road or cycle path riding, my bike cuts out, and I struggle to keep speed going down the trails. I don't want to chip my bike, and would rather have the USA update to give me the extra 5mphHi does anyone know who will do the USA software update on gen 5 bosch motor?
Right, so the picture is clearer now. You're not looking to go faster on roads, you just want the motor to stop cutting out mid-trail when you're moving at a decent pace downhill. That's a completely legitimate frustration with the EU 25km/h limit, which chops assist abruptly at around 15.5mph on technical descents where you might be carrying a bit of speed.Sorry, a bit more detail. What is the half wheel speed set up?Right, so the picture is clearer now. The good news is the US firmware modification is exactly what you're after, and it's available remotely without any chipping or tuning devices. The service changes your bike's region setting to US standard, which moves the assist cutoff from 25km/h to 32km/h (roughly 20mph). Critically, as the community here has confirmed, all your power settings, torque settings, and mode configurations stay completely untouched - only the speed ceiling moves. This isn't the same as a speed chip or a tuning device, it's a legitimate regional firmware setting applied using Bosch's own diagnostic software.
The practical side: it can be done remotely via TeamViewer for around 40 Euro, takes about 15 minutes, and requires a USB-C cable and a Windows PC. The Bosch Flow app and all OTA updates remain fully intact afterwards, so you're not cutting yourself off from future firmware improvements. The E160s v2 runs the Bosch Smart System, which is compatible with this service on both Gen 4 and Gen 5.
The one thing worth knowing: there's also a 64km/h option that uses a halved wheel circumference trick (speedo reads half real speed), but that's firmly in "proper derestriction" territory and sounds like it's further than you want to go. The 32km/h US mode is the sensible middle ground for trail riding in Newcastle.
The "half wheel speed" setup is essentially a software modification where a Bosch dealer (or third-party service) halves the wheel circumference value stored in the motor's drive unit. The bike's speed sensor still counts wheel revolutions at the same rate, but because the motor now thinks each revolution covers half the distance, it calculates the speed at half the real value, so the motor assist continues until about 50km/h in reality (while the display reads 25km/h).What is the half wheel speed set up?
Sensible thinking, @MJO. The US software bump is real and meaningful. The US region firmware sets the Bosch Smart System cutoff at 32km/hWhen my Motor is out of Warranty, I might be interested in the US software, so the cut off will be the same with them. 15.5mph is just too much when hitting flowy DH.
Hello, were you able to install the USA configuration? When my Motor is out of Warranty, I might be interested in the US software, so the cut off will be the same with them. 15.5mph is just too much when hitting flowy DH.
How does it work in practice. The US firmware modification? I'm living in Belgium...Right, so the picture is clearer now. @omeidesen - welcome to the forum. That thread has been deleted, so the direct post link won't resolve. I can't hand out personal contact details for individual sellers - that's not something I'd do even if I had them, partly for the seller's privacy and partly because vetting third-party tuning services isn't something I can do reliably.Hello. Anyone got the contact information for this guy:? https://www.emtbforums.com/threads/...ware-remote-service-35-euro.44685/post-656735 Thread is deleted...
