Specialized Levo R: We Rode It. Here's What You Need to Know

First Ride Specialized Levo R: Full Power in a Lighter, Faster Package Specialized have launched the Levo R, and we flew out to ride it.
When I bought my '21 SJEVO frame I was so impressed by the quality compared to my other high end bikes, and I watched my PB's fall left and right on that bike and I was pretty certain that I was from then on out a Spesh fan boy.

But the offerings just continue to be strange and missing the point. Which is wild because the company was just so forward thinking with so many designs in years past. SJ15, Levo SL, now the Levo, just have all missed the mark.
Clearly not everyone agrees with your perspective. Thats fine but try and remember you’re stating a subjective opinion and not facts.

I think this is fair comment, but is just the nature of competition isn’t it, nobody stays on top for ever and companies ebb and flow.

We the customers change as well, I know that I want different things from bikes today than 10 years ago so my cash goes to whoever is offering it at a price I’m happy with.

I don’t know where all the emotion is coming from to be honest, there are dozens of bike releases every year, the majority of them are of zero interest to me, that’s pretty normal isn’t it?

I think a lot of people don’t realise you can own more than one bike and enjoy bikes from many brands.

And you don’t like the Levo R or want to buy it that’s okay, you don’t have to.

Having high expectations of the big S is one thing but we don’t need to slander another persons bike just because you don’t want it.

Not a lot of space between us here. This bike is so wrong for me and my terrain, I think I’d sell it even if I got it for free! I’m not hating on it though; and can envision people that would find it ideal. Weird how some people seem to express anger about a bike release.

To me, that S-Works in the Gloss Silver Speckle Over Carbon color looks like a park bench covered in bird droppings.

I dunno, I mean I’m struggling to see how this isn’t an attractive bike? Looks are always subjective, and fashions change.

For some, it’s clearly important that looks come first, for others it’s not.

Good to hear that it actually rides well, which for me is one of the important things for, er, actually riding a bike?!

I just think it’s a shame that every review is followed by “lolz, look at the phat batteryz tube thingy” as the main takeaway.

It’s perfectly possible to like this bike and aesthetically different ones like the Mith or even the Amflow, at the same time. When did things get so tribal in the land of EMTB?

Now more than ever people need to just get out and ride whatever it is you’ve got and get over ourselves.
ordered the Expert. My first e-mtb. Been procrastinating for past 3 years. was a fan of the idea of a SL, almost went for the Yeti MTe in past 6 months. But i’m 59, it’s not like I can afford a new e-bike every 2 years and my
buddies are on CX’s so what not. I’m happy with the full 29rd and I don’t need more than 140-150mm where I am so perfect.

People race enduro on 160/170mm forks. I don't see why regular Joe shouldn't be fine with 140-150mm. Suspension made such progression (pun intended) the last years.. I really can see it work. Is it for me? Probably not, but I live in the Alps - and even then you could do most stuff on a hardtail (but I'm now too old for that shit).

This and the widespread shop coverage plus Range Extenders is still a unique selling point for S.

Where they really miss out is to make the battery type configurable

This reeks like a panic release, but fails to address the common complaints of the Gen 4 Levo - namely weight and the chonky downtube/aesthetics. Very doubtful this will sell in any meaningful volume, and my feeling is this is a "new release" to placate fans of the big S until the next product in the pipeline is ready.

And these statements are coming from a huge fan of Specialized, I ride a Levo SL2, Epic Evo, Roubaix SL8, Allez and my wife has a Gen 3 Levo and a Como.

I think it’s great, only thing I don’t like is the one piece cockpit on the s works.

Doesn’t suit my needs, but it might in a few years or it would be great for the wife, but she’s got a gen3 which is still ideal for her and it doesn’t get used a lot.

This is such a weird decision from Spec, like is there really a market for a 140/130 full power ebike? Obviously they believe there is but I can't see one.

Specialized trying to create a market?

When we purchased end of summer 25, had this been an option, my wife would’ve chosen it over the Levo 4. She really really likes her Levo 4. She doesn’t always need all the mm”s or lbs the Levo 4 provides.
that said…….she doesn’t not feel like she needs to switch. No FOMO, or post purchase dissonance.
Thanks Specialized, we had a good talk about mountain bikes, instead of work over coffee. It led to a fun argument, and some great post argument sheet folding ..
……So we are satisfied with your release. I mean, your new bike pull out…sorry ….roll out ……… your new bike release.

I think there could be a market, just not at that price and definitely not at that weight.

Don’t forget if you want the 600wh you’ll going to have to pay extra when it comes out clever

Nice video,
looks like they have made some effort on the weight, but agree that they are boxed in with the GEN 4 looks wise. It’s not a cheap bike and at this price point it needs to tick all the Box’s. Looks very important to some. Like has been mentioned in some of the videos I know for fact that they have lost sales due to the Gen 4 looks.
Am I still the only one that likes the looks of then gen 4 🙂

Me: Hear rumors about a longer travel Levo 4
Specialized: Releases a shorter travel Levo 4

Cognitive dissonance
It's coming later I think. Most likely waiting until other manufactures are ready to unveil components that will be spec'd on it.
