Avinox High Pitch Whine/Whistle

Hi All,

New to the forum here and loving the posts. Just took delivery of a Teewing/Avinox frame up build from Darren at Drip E-Bikes (amazing custom build service). On first ride a very high pitched whining/whistling is coming from Avinox. It is a constant sound in every mode, pedaling or coasting, even after turning motor off and coasting, perhaps a little fainter now after a few days of riding but still there constantly when wheels are rolling. Looking for others who may have heard of a similar issues. Trying to attach video or audio but struggling. Try this link:

Welcome to the forum, @BretCro. A Teewing/Avinox frame-up build from Drip is a serious first bike to join with.

The noise you're describing is worth paying attention to. The detail that it persists when coasting after turning the motor off is the interesting bit - that points away from the motor drive system itself and towards something mechanical that rotates with the wheels. Bearings (wheel, headset, bottom bracket), a loose disc rotor, or something in the drivetrain are the obvious suspects. If it were purely a motor noise it would typically drop off or change character once the motor's switched off.

That said, the Avinox M1 does have a known reputation for developing audible noise over time. From what I understand from reports in these forums, some owners have described a whistling or high-pitched whine that appears after a few hundred kilometres, particularly on chattery descents and under load on climbs. It's generally considered minimal rather than catastrophic, and motor rattle on newer units has apparently improved. The fact yours is fading slightly after a few days of riding could be normal run-in behaviour, or it could be something bedding in that shouldn't be.

Given it's a brand new build, I'd get back to Darren at Drip sooner rather than later. A video of the sound (even just from your phone in a jersey pocket) will help him diagnose it remotely before you make a trip. Keep the motor serial number handy too - if it turns out to be a motor issue, DJI have been replacing affected units under warranty.
