Stealth Bosch rim magnet? (gluing it inside the wheel)

Bosch's rim magnet is huge and ugly, what if I glued it to the inside of the wheel instead?

This would also let me put it on the opposite side from the valve stem to help balance the weight.

Has anyone tried this before?

It sounds like a pretty good idea. It's ugly, without a doubt. Further, unless you install a grotesquely long valve stem, Some pumps night not work.
 
Just bought a DT Swiss internal rim magnet. Pretty slick!
Thats pretty cool. I found the manual for that part and it has a double sided adhesive to attach it plus the valve stem goes through it:

But not having much luck with a US store that sells them. SKU appears to be J915651

This site doesn't say out of stock but everywhere else does so I am skeptical.
 
Found it on only one online seller here in Germany, Schrader valve version is available but Presta version is out of stock.

Why put it on the same side as the valve stem?
Why not just glue it on to the opposite side as the OP suggested?

Extra security against it coming unstuck I suppose. Hardly likely to be going fast enough to worry about wheel balance and anyway what would they then do with all the stocks of those long valve inner tubes?;)

I suspect they use the valve stem to secure it and tape to help prevent rotating if the nut holding the stem gets loose; which means they think (/know) the sticky tape alone isnt enough. Options could be some (waterproof) high strength double sided tape (30 lb/in on amazon etc) or drill/tap and install with a short screw. FWIW, at 25mph, centripetal acceleration is appx 20g's. Add a bouncing wheel, etc and their tape alone probably works loose over time.
 
Looks very neat but I’m a bit concerned about how good a seal would be between the hole on the magnet and the hole in the rim, as it is a flat piece with no chamfer or opportunity to create a seal. Just using a valve has a soft rubber tapered base that compresses into the rim bed. Potentially, this might be reliant too much on sealant to make the seal, rather than the seal primarily being the deformed rubber of the valve base.

Yet another argument for glueing to the inside of the rim.
 
I don't think I'm brave enough to try but I like the idea of drilling a hole opposite the rear valve stem and using a wee bolt/ nut to hold it in place.

I have a junk rim here that I could test with at least.

You can kinda see it in the user manual photo I posted earlier, but it's more clear in this photo from a store listing of the actual part:

It's pretty clearly curved and the adhesive goes around the valve stem hole, which should create a decent seal in combination with a tubeless valve stem.

Depending on it's width, I could see it not being compatible with some rim "troughs", especially if it isn't completely flat as well.

Additionally the specs say:
  • Minimum rim inner width 22 mm, Inner width ≥ 24 mm recommended for ease of tire installation
  • Minimum rim diameter 559 mm (26")
  • Only ISO-compliant rim bed design recommended
So there are some pretty clear guidelines on what won't work.

I'll probably attempt to epoxy a magnet to the rim tape and see how that goes since it would be nondestructive to the Nobl TR38 set I just bought and easy to redo if it breaks. Cheaper than the $30+ with shipping DT Swiss part too.
