How is the Amflow for tight techy climbs

Too much abrupt power ? Or smooth controllable power?
I have the Transition Repeater PT with SRAM motor, very natural smoot power , but many times lacks the power I want and feels weak, the Turbo Levo has more power than the SRAM and ends up being better on steep techy climbs

in the french 'terres noires', on ultra rocky steep climbs, big steps, techy trializing zone, it's ULTRA controlable. No power surge, you never feel like the bike will launch you on orbit.
It's so smooth ,predictable, progressive : it feels like having cyber legs.

edit : i ride my amflow 100% on auto mode, 850 W power peak (base settings).

Every time i see 'videos' of 'so-called journalist' saying crazy things about amflow being violent, unpredictable or whatever BS ... i know it's a clownery.

What is your overrun set at?
 
@motoadve I don't have an Amflow, but my mate has one. A major reason for such a smooth and controllable power is that it has 42 speed sensors, not just one, see pic.
It's the slotted disc in front of the brake disc. I rode that bike up a steep rock slab, it was rutted and with a dusty/gritty surface. There was no wheelspin at all and I went straight up the slab, no drama. :)
But the rear wheel on my bike kept spinning out and I didn't get up the hill. :(
Put in Auto and there isn't much that you won't get up. You might get there quicker in Boost, but I have never tried that.

Unfortunately this is one area where Shimano motors do show there age, the traction thing.

I can get up stuff on a 60Nm Bosch SX that my E8000 can’t, even with more torque.

The speed sensor on the Amflow isn’t really the defining thing, but it has torque sensing, MEMS sensors and software that any Shimano struggles to match.

That’s progress though!

I have Trail set to 850watts and about 1 metre of overrun, and Turbo set to 1000 watts and 2 metres of overrun. I can't use Turbo when it's really tight and you need to pick a really narrow twisty line. It just pushes you offline. But if you need to just go straight but over lots of elevation changes, and it's really steep. Turbo is a beast.

One thing you must learn to do with a really powerful motor and overrun, is trail brake your rear brake, if you need too, even when going uphill. You go through pads and rotors much quicker. But it's worth the climbing ability and control it gives you.

I'm going through rear pads about twice as quick as my fronts. But I do just use resin pads from Aliexpress. So it's not an expensive exercise.

Keep an eye out for brake disc thickness, they wear as well. :unsure:
 
i do a lot of techy uphills with the AMFLOW and it performs really well :-)

some climbs with my old bosch gen 4 system were impossible . . now with the amflow easy cheesy :cool:

I´ve changed the tires to ones with more grip . . . Schwalbe Magic Magic Mary & Big betty rear
and the bar to one with 20mm rise only
 
Where are I ride , lots of fast sections on single track, where I think the Amflow will shine, but also many steep narrow very tight twisty uphill single track trails, where too much power will be a handful for sure, too tight and slow to rely using the rear brake if too much power is applied, will automatic setting take care of this situation? For example the Bosch motor in EMTB setting does this sections perfect. Is automatic kind of the Bosch EMTB?
 
For my first two short rides, I used Auto, didn't need to change gear, use the brake or even change mode. It all went very well. A week later, for a short steep climb that had previously defeated me, I tried Auto and Boost, but neither got me up the climb. I'm fairly sure that the problem was me not the bike. Auto is very smooth, very good, almost intuitive. My mate loves it.

Tight techy climbs? Nothing better than an Amflow. Complete control, and you can climb things you would have never tried with a weaker bike. I ride a lot of steep trails that are only a foot wide and rutted and rocky and switchback added. It just takes practice. The bike is a strong climber and the power is key, but power delivery is spot on. Im not the best climber, but im getting up stuff, I would never have even thought of on my EP801.

Same here ride 100% in auto. Took a few goes to fine tune but it’s perfect now. Just
 
Also another Auto fan, my settings for it are standard. I know you can change them on the touchscreen but I have not changed any of them.

The App... I connected through a NZ VPN in the shop the day I bought it and have never opened the App since, 2 weeks after I bough the bike, NZ got the 45kph limit.

Was forced to ride my Ibis a few weeks ago due to not charging the Amflow, riding it in Auto is more powerful than the Gen 4 Bosch in Turbo. That explains my recent 5kg weigh gain :ROFLMAO:

Its an awesome bike, not as exciting at the Forbidden, Unno, Crestline etc... but it just does everything very well.

My initial idea was to buy the Amflow and sell it when the others mentioned above became available, going to hang onto it for a while as its really impressed me.

It can be a handful, like many long wheelbase, full power eMTBs. You need to get your weight over the front wheel as much as you can, and stay out of Turbo/Boost (in some super tight uphill switchbacks even Trail is too much).

This bike loves to be able to move underneath you - getting up out of the saddle on tech climbs is the key to cleaning many of them.

As it is on any e-bike, or even ‘bike’, technique, tyre and line choices are as important as raw power?

The latter will only get you so far, but even further if you know what you’re doing.

As long as it’s fun, that’s the main thing, but some people will get further up a climb on a lower power bike and vice versa, riders still have a part to play.

Unlimited power is great on bridle trails and fire roads.

Weight too far forward, rear tire starts to slip.
Move your weight back, front wheel starts to lift.
Move forward to regain control.
Try to recover a rideable line.
Too much power, wheelie out.
Bike cartwheels down the mountain, you tumble like Homer Simpson down Springfield Gorge.
That's why they call it Mountain Bike Riding. It's awesome.

comparing bosch emtb and avinox auto-mode is like comparing Captain cavern (google it) and superman !

Yep, as I said above, I have both bikes and the Avinox in Auto is more powerful than the Gen 4 Bosch in Turbo (85nm/600w)

Never ridden the Gen 5 with the power boosted to 100nm and 750w but here in Aus we cut out at 25kph/15mph and its painful hitting that wall regardless of the motor power that gets you there.

Not to be a smartass, but try downshifting or get stronger leg muscles. Ok im being a smartass. 😁 j/king . I’m guessing my Cube Hybrid 140 ActionTeam is similar to Turbo Levo. I try not to use the highest assist on those steep techy sections climbing. I find I have more control steering. . Btw I’m 74, emtbs allows me to still enjoy my decades old hobby. I wouldn’t mind an Amflow at all.
 
So long steep climbs with gravel and rock chunk, nothing beats boost. I have two bikes, one with an ep801 and the amflow, amflow in turbo set at 1000w always makes the technical sections, the ep 801 makes it most of the time, speed is your friend on a lot of technical climbs. The ability to get over that rock with momentum is crucial.

On the other side of the coin, I will take days and see how slow I can creep up said climbs, its twice as difficult to go slow. More tip overs going slow as well.
 
I ride a focus sam2 with shimano e8000 and an amflow and can confirm that the amflow handles steep techy ascents like a beast. Did skiddaw summit 3 weeks ago in rainy shizzle conditions and it was unstoppable. Made me laugh a couple of time how capable these new bike are in comparison. i have ridden the shimano and it was good but not anywhere near as enjoyable to ascend.

One of my favourite ascents skiddaw, done it a few times on my Jam2 with E8000 as well. 👍

I’ve had my SL1 up there as well, lot more work though! 🥵😅
 
Got my bike, been riding it for a month, handles great, its super fun to ride, climbs amazingly.
 
I have only done one test ride on an amflow, but comparing to other bikes I've owned I find the amflow ramp up to full power relatively slow. Obviously most of these can be customised in the app, but still.

Shimano/Yamaha: very twitchy, high power delivered as soon as you put pressure on the pedal. Can lead to low traction in steep starts.

Bosch gen 5: Very easy to tune in app, makes huge difference, I suggest using 0 to +2 to have a nice ramp up.

Avinox: First half turn of the cranks does not deliver that much power, it ramps up over a full turn or two. However, if you are spinning the cranks fast the power is massive.

I also think at a simple level, when going up an impossible climb, having the extra speed + not being out of breath with the avinox will be a huge advantage.

Turn on "quick start" which was a new feature implemented via firmware update
