Cairngorms ( Ballater ) May '25.

I'd join for a HBR ride and another in the hills around Braemar so I'll keep an eye out.

I don't rate Tarland enough to make the journey just for that but the others are decent. Comrie is probably my closest decent trails anyway

I thought it was only for pensioners that outing 🤔.

Just found this thead, looks like you guys had a great time. For your next visit, you took the wrong descent, choosing the steep "Lightening strike" fire road rather than the epic single track which comes out at the back of the loch. Stunning.

I did that once had a weird crash , ended up with bars twisted and my leg jammed through the frame ????. Nearly dark on a driech November afternoon with that drop on my left I remember it well. Took a few minutes to contort myself free.

I know what you mean, whilst it's not a sheer drop, it's steep enough and I don't like exposed heights.

Few years back I was riding down there and came across some debris that had fallen from the hill up above. So I cleared it off to the side, but one of the rocks started to roll down the hill. My goodness, the speed and height it gained between each bounce was quite scary, glad there's no paths down there, it rolled\bounced all the way to the bottom.

Just as disc brakes came out I had a problem with my rear and rode down the lightening strike the guys came down with just a front brake. Horrible experience.

Need to get my ebike up there.

Yes 2016 on a Nicolai when I did it . We had a vote in May this year i think and nobody was bothered about doing it. The push up from the Glenclova side with the ebike was torture. Funny how I don't remember that being a chew on the ordinary bike , was a young spring 60 year old then though.

Actually having previously ridden that descent a good few years ago on a " normal" mtb ..it was a considered choice as our group suffered 3 punctures on the way down ..personally I didn't think it was that good ..scary yes ..but I've been on better 😂
