Santa Cruz Heckler SL battery swap guidelines?

With the « great » news from FAZUA, announcing the cancellation of their RE, I am thinking about getting an extra battery to swap on longer rides.
Wondering if anyone has pics and a step by step list removing the battery?
Depending on how long this takes, it might work for my use case as I typically do fairly small loops and could store an extra battery in my car.

I was looking for a video of the same. We just ordered the new main 480WH battery and if I replace it myself I will make a video :)
 
I have a Decoy SN and have removed the battery. If its the same it doesn't take long. Now that I've had it apart a time or two I could do it in 15 minutes pretty easily. You just have to remove the motor and then 2 bolts holding the battery in. It slides out the bottom.

Just did the 480Wh battery swap and contrary to what I've heard and read it doesn’t require motor removal (at least for the M sized HSL)!
  1. Turn off power to bike
  2. Turn bike upside down
  3. Remove the motor cover by removing the 5 x 2.5mm hex screws
  4. Disconnect the battery cable from the motor
  5. While holding the battery cable, remove the two torx 30 battery screws in the down tube (holding the cable will prevent the battery from sliding down the downtube)
  6. Remove the battery
  7. Transfer the battery mounts to your other battery (torque the mount screws to 1.2 Nm)
  8. Set your bike stand to its highest height and mount the bike onto the stand
  9. Tilt the bike so that the down tube is parallel to the ground (this will make the next step easier)
  10. Slide the battery into the down tube, align the mount screws and tighten to 9Nm
  11. Reconnect the battery cable and install the motor cover

Did you get a discount on the 480 battery or pay the full price?
 
How did you get the discount?
I had contacted FAZUA a month ago, and they gave me a boiler plate response stating that they are working on improving the ride60 system. No indications of any discounts on 480 batteries.

I got an email from Fazua re: the cancellation of the range extender and to contact one of their agents re: a special offer (i.e. this discount).

just wanted to say thank you for posting these instructions. They worked PERFECTLY! I did the battery swap in my size Small Heckler SL without having to drop the motor.

The only thing I did differently, was I did the whole process with my bike hanging vertically in the garage as pictured.

It was so quick and easy that I had my local shop order me an extra set of battery mounts to attach to the original 430Wh battery so I could do a parking lot hot swap on long self shuttle days if needed. Not having to swap out the battery mounts would make the whole battery swap doable in about 5-7 minutes, taking my time to torque spec the bolts.

Also attached picture showing plenty of room to slide the battery out of a size Small without having to touch the motor.

Great to hear about folks performing the battery swap. My plan is also to do the swap in the parking lot for those extra long rides.
Can you tell us if there was a specific hardware kit part number (there is a list of individual parts in initial thread but wondering if there is a whole kit)you ordered from the bike shop for the brackets?
Also, any concern with the battery power connector? Have read that it is fragile and might be prone to failure from multiple disconnect/ reconnect.

There wasn't a specific hardware kit part number for both so, I just asked for these from the diagram:

B. Fix 430 Mount 26-25288
E. Fix 430 Mount 26-25137

Part E you can find and order online, but part B seemed to be specific to the Heckler SL frame, so the shop said they would order them from Santa Cruz. I'll report back when I actually have the mounts.

The battery power connector doesn't seem fragile to me. It's quite thick and sturdy. I attached a picture of the connector that comes out of the battery from my spare 430Wh, and circled the connection in the frame. Pretty solid unit and doesn't feel easily prone to failure.

The battery mount brackets can be ordered directly from Santa Cruz. The parts and shipping were free. As for the connector it looks sturdy and should be fine as long as it's not abused.

How do u guys charge the spare battery? Getting a spare port connector or charge while it on the bike then remove it and put the spare in and charge it ?

I haven't had to charge the spare as that's not how I intend to use it. The spare will be shipped ahead of my next trip so I can still use the main battery in the interim. However, if I had to I would simply remove the motor cover, unplug the battery cable from the main battery and plug it into the spare and charge.
