Hi,
I’m considering offering the Bafang M510 motor on my ebike (which I’ve designed and will be selling).
I’m curious about the potential modifications my future customers could make to the controller’s parameters, especially to remove the speed limit. I’d like to avoid seeing my ebikes riding at 45 km/h on public roads!
What’s the current situation with the M510? Is it as easily tunable as the BBS series?

Do not know the BBS, but the M510 CAN is a good motor and with a Besst tool (more than 100euro) really good turnable.
(CANAble (around 20 euro) too, but did not used)

I tested 50Km/h and current 18A with 48V battery. At full charged battery over 950watt.
Holly moly! A lot of power.

Free software are:
Bafang Setup Tool
Besst Tool
Besst Tool Pro
OpenBafangTool
And speed limit was changed by Bafang display.

Goog luck with your planed business!

Hi,
it is very easy.
But think, would you buy a city-car (like Mini) with locked speed at 60km/h because it is for city, stupid isn't it?

Hi,

Regulations can sometimes appear stupid, but when you sell ebikes you want them to follow the rules.
What will happen, especially in Europe, if users continue to remove the speed limits of their bikes (which is very easy to do on all cheap chinese illegal ebikes found on the web) will be an obligation to have a license plate + insurance for all ebikes.

Ebikes are still a space of freedom, I truly hope it can continue.

Yes you're right about obligation.
Somewhere on this forum I read about people with locked firmware on bike with bafang motor that can't change speed. You should ask about your question China Bafang directly, can they supply for you locked motors.... if it really can be locked.
