I'm a limey mate, not a pommy. Thats the kind of thing you learn at university whil;e having your dress fitted. And inverse snobbery is still snobbery and snobbery is a character fault.

If we offshore all our manufacturing and leave all the finance, insurance, retail banking etc jobs for ourselves, we will be hit for a six when AI takes over all the admin jobs. The big legal and accountancy employers are already drastically cutting back on graduate intake because AI can do their jobs better and faster. It will spread, of that I have little doubt.

My son in law and I advised our grandson not to go to university, but to become an electrician instead. He is a bright lad and is doing well, already working on installing fibre optic cables and building control panels etc. It's difficult to see AI taking over those jobs unless they start building mobile robots. Even if they do, they will need electricians to be involved.
sound advice!!

From emtb to fun facts....

Kurzweil's prediction that AI will surpass human intelligence by 2029 is no longer just a fantasy assumption, but an increasingly real possibility and humanoid robots, enriched by the integration of artificial intelligence, will bring revolutionary changes to many workplaces that require physical presence and interaction.

Scurvy knave! It is your character that is clearly in default! By the sacred word of Lord Chaucer as defined in the Rules of Canterbury, which treats all slights upon a gentleman's ignorance as equivalent to a blow, I demand satisfaction! Deliver your terms of apology, or meet me upon grandmother's lawn before the milkman.

If you look a Giant’s response they basically admitted everything the Trump administration has accused them of. They just said they have already made improvements.

To that end of why the WRO and the ? I had that was answered with a quick google search that now includes AI wizardry apparently......

"Giant has enacted changes, including a zero recruitment fee policy and housing upgrades, and is filing a petition to reverse the order. The incident impacts not only the Giant brand but also other brands that use Giant as a contract manufacturer."

That is 100% wrong.

First, there is no known evidence that Giant has exploited their workers or done anything wrong in any way, there's merely an accusation from Trump - unsubstantiated as always.

Second "If you look at Giant's response" which you clearly did not, you'll see that they deny any wrongdoing and have not made any changes in response to Trump's action. They note that none of their employment policies have been updated since the Biden era and that the Trump administration has never contacted them in any way, investigative or otherwise.

This all stems from some 2024 investigative journalism into the generalized Taiwanese bike industry which uncovered some claims of high recruitment fees and crowded living conditions for migrant workers. Giant announced some vague "improvements" in response, but they did not state any wrongdoing at that time either.

hey deny any wrongdoing and have not made any changes in response to Trump's action.

I have no first hand knowledge, but some of the language in Giant's statements seem mealy-mouthed and evasive. Regardless, I'm not making judgements. I don't know all the facts. Is Giant like a Southern Plantation Owner who beats his slaves? If the workers didn't come to Taiwan to work in the sweatshops, would their families die of starvation? What's better? What's worse?

In a 2025 report by Business & Human Rights Resource Centre, it was revealed that Vietnamese workers paid up to $6,500 and Thai workers up to $3,200 in recruitment fees to brokers for jobs at Giant. Many workers had to borrow money from banks or relatives to cover these costs. Additionally, workers reported that their passports were withheld by the company, and they faced threats of deportation or fines if they did not comply with company rules. Living conditions were also reported to be unsanitary and cramped .

In response to these allegations, Giant has implemented a Zero Recruitment Fee Policy since January 2025, ensuring that all recruitment, agency, and government-related fees for newly hired migrant workers are fully covered by the company. They have also upgraded employee housing and established internal supervision mechanisms and third-party audits to ensure compliance with international labor standards.
