Just sold my Cube Stereo Hybrid 160 SLX and looking for a new bike under £3500 preferably.

I've had my eyes on the Giant Trance X E+2 for about a week as I think it's a good spec for the money - and it looks good! However I today watched a EMBN video comparing bikes and they showed a Canyon Neuron:ON AL 7 and praised it highly for the price considering it has the new Gen 5 Bosch motor also.

I'm now torn between sticking with the Giant which is £3294 or going with the Canyon which is slightly above budget. I know the Canyon brand is very well known and regarded as 'quality' I guess.

Which bike would you choose as a 'best bang for buck' so to speak going mainly off components and then looks. (I think the Giant wins hands down on looks) The main appeal to me on the Canyon, or perhaps the only appeal is the motor and getting the power upgrade this month. But do I really need the extra 20nm!? Probably not. But as a typical man, I want the bigger and best! 🤣. One other bonus is having the display on the Canyon which there isn't on the Giant. I would like to track speed, milage and most importantly battery percentage. I don't like bars!

Thank you :)

Pauls cycles is a good place to look as you can often get discounted (last year) bikes. I recently bought a Lapierre AM6.7 Overvolt and it does everything I need - whilst I haven't ridden 1000's of miles yet, I'm enjoying more than my Cube Stereo Hybrid 160. It doesn't have the Gen 5 motor but being honest, for the style of riding I do that isn't going to make any difference. I replaced the LED display with a Purion as I like to see stats as well but in hindsight, should have considered the Kiox 400 for navigation.

Canyon sponsor EMBN. So do Whyte. So EMBN is not a good source of info on these two brands.

Regarding your two choices. I wouldn't buy either. There are better bikes from LBS's out there.
Sadly where I live i don't have many bike shops about, in fact only 1 within a 45 mins drive. The rest are further and I don't drive. My local one only sells Raleigh/Lapierre so I don't have much choice really. Second nearest at an hour away don't have anything below my budget.

I had my Cube from Paul's Cycles and they had a great service. I did have a look there again and found a stunning Haibike I really wanted but it was only available in size small. Gutted! Nowhere seems to have stock of the same bike, regardless of size (allmtn 10)

I did have a look at the Lapierre actually! But I think im torn on the above two with the Giant edging it. I just need that extra convincing im choosing the right one I guess haha

Then the Canyon over the Giant. The new Bosch CX is a good motor. Then again the Giant has better suspension.

BTW. That fork on the Canyon is a coil fork. No damping adjustment and weighs 2.7kgs.

haha that's my predicament. I prefer the specs of the Giant, and the colour, but the motor of the Canyon. I guess for my riding which is mostly natural trails, forests and occasional bike park like Coed y Brenin, Llandegla and Gwydir then the Yamaha should do me fine! Done with 85nm up until now without issues so I don't "really" need the extra power.

I still have a Trance X E-2 Pro , 625 watt hour battery , so the older model , bought new in 2021 and still going strong , well kind of , never had an issue with the motor , over 4000 miles on it now , it's probably on it's way out motor wise now , bike serviced regularly myself , fork and shock . bearings etc , still on the original XT derailleur , just keep an eye on chain wear and you'll get decent miles out of the cassette and front chain ring.
Its a fair old weight , but set up right , rides well,
I actually like the Giant Yamaha PWX motor and 85nm is fine for me also , never really use full power mode.
The app is pants , but it works .
I have two other bikes , Whyte E160 RSMX mullet Gen 4 and now a Trek Rail 5 Gen 5 with upgraded lyric fork , all bought at discount , I still enjoy the Trance and the Yamaha motor..
The Giant suspension when dialled in , is sweet.

Ive now decided to add the Lapierre Overvolt AM 8.7 to the mix! 😬

I tried to find a Whyte E160 but seems they've been taken down for the new 2025 bikes. I don't personally like Trek bikes - but saying that I don't know anything about Lapierre but I think the specs are great for the price!

I'd love a gen 5 Bosch motor but it seems only Cubes within my price range and that's a huge no no!

I'm very happy with my Lapierre 6.7 BUT it is heavy (as is the 8.7). Both are ~26.5kg so not something to go hike-a-bike with !

Over time, I intend to shave ~3kg off by changing components such as forks, wheels and a 600Wh battery for shorter rides. All depends on your riding style / terrain and as most of mine is bridleway / forest trails, the extra weight doesn't bother me too much.

I noticed they're heavy actually, over the standard 25kg. I think my Thule bike carrier has a max of 25kg per bike - not sure if removing the battery would shave the extra weight off!?

Giant don't state the weight of the Trance so can't compare. They just say all bikes weight different 🙈🤣

The Giant Trance X E+ 2 (2025) weighs approximately 26.5 kg with the integrated 800Wh EnergyPak battery

Oh I didn't realise it was a 2025 bike, I've been looking for 2023. Everywhere I looked in UK just said NA for weight so thank you for that!

I presume the forks and shock on the Lapierre are better than the Giants?
