Pic of the Day

“Ooh what do you do for work!?”
I think I gave that away in the Motor Power discussion. Drives and Control Systems Software for the Water Authority.

This is Australia, mate. Second driest continent, only to Antarctica. Water is a precious resource. Peeps will pay through the nose for it ......... 🤣

The lads hired Whyte e180’s and absolutely loved them.
I managed to empty my battery about 5km from the end, so needless to say I am feeling it today!
Nice to see the Whytes getting some big love ❤️..
Just over 3000ft in less than 19miles ( Ive deducted the 5km ftom the total mileage)seems a little excessive on battery life ..unless your boys were whipping your ass and you were in Turbo all the way trying to keep up ? 😁
Happy Birthday 🎂...youth !

There were some steep climbs where they ripped ahead and I had to engage warp speed. And I’m about 95kg fully loaded, as opposed to their 65(ish) rider weights. Don’t know who their father is, but I was never that skinny.

After a huge helping hand from Wayne in terms getting my bike sorted (
many thanks mate he's a mechanic supreme ) ..we decided to do an early evening ride in the Cheviot Hills ..short & sweet but what a ride !
Hot & sunny but with a nice cooling breeze & the light quality highlighting the surrounding hills was amazing .
We didn't expect to see a soul this evening but encountered 3 runners separately on the Border Ridge( section of The Pennine Way) taking part in the Montane sponsored race ..they were on the final leg ..and to be honest looked to be on their last legs ..but credit to them for the stamina & endurance it has taken to cover the whole route ( 268miles in total)
Nowt better than a pint after a cracking ride and the IPA from the Hadrian brewery hit the spot for me as did the Guiness for Wayne in the refurbished Rose & Thistle in Alwinton who were doing a roaring trade in Early evening meals ..quite surreal for such a remote pub ..but along with The Star in Harbottle ( also recently refurbished ) they are attracting more tourists to the area .
Anyway enough prattling .some pics ..

The last pic ( zoom ) is one of the best flyers in these hills ..( Black Braes)...only surpassed by the final drop from Hindside Knowe down to the White bridge at Slymefoot ..and with conditions as dry as they are right now ..the speed was almost suicidal 🤪.
But hell it was fun 😁. 1000015017.jpg 1000015019.jpg

Love the post Neil,
We ride all over the North and Scotland on all surfaces, moorland, coastal singletrack with excellent trail centres close by should the need take our fancy but the loop we did last night, in those conditions was for me Emtbing nirvana. Only a short loop but it has the lot in terms of remote hill riding.
A special ride reminiscent of pre Covid days when a ride up in the Cheviots was a solitary occasion where you wouldn’t meet a soul in the 3 or 4 hours you were up there. Pleased tho more people are enjoying the beauty of the Coquet Valley for the locals who are trying to make a living up there
Anyways as my wordsmith friend mentioned “enough of this prattling” here’s my pics from the ride in no particular order. IMG_0169.jpegIMG_0170.jpegIMG_0170.jpegIMG_0171.jpegIMG_0174.jpegIMG_0173.jpeg

These are my strava stats from the loop.

Thanks for the refreshments my friend 👌

Pic a line….one of the wharpspeed descents towards the end of the ride, Black Brae’s I think it’s called.

Out today with The Don Jaconelli.. Jaco to his friends ..he has family ties to Scicily but his first name is Paul ...never worked that out 😉😎
A bit of an exploratory ride today 90%ish of the route I've ridden before but there was a bridleway from Farney Shield to Carrshield ( see map) which I wanted to explore but it turned out to be total 💩 with nothing on the ground resembling a track ..just tussocky grass which would have taken an eternity to plough through ..so we back tracked to the Byeway from The Nook to Limestone Brae which was more than a little bit of a challenge due to it's steepness/ huge boulders and a field full of Cows & Calves who decided to stampede ..don't like the buggers to start with a after a bad experience in my teens ..so I was shitting myself ..
This was the section ..

Looking back at it from Limestone Brae..

Doubtful if we would ride this section again as we spied a better track from along the side of Smallburns Moor to Coalclough which looked excellent ..but with what was left of the ride couldn't risk the additional battery health to check it out ( next time) .
The rest of the route included the excellent Issacs Tea Trail ( or as we know it The Black Way ) ..which can be very boggy at the back end of the year ..but imo could have done with a little bit of moisture today ..also loved a track I hadn't been on for years Stobb Cross down to the turning for Allendale at Scotch Halls..
A cracking ride and a beautiful pint of Wainwright's Golden Ale courtesy of Jaco 🍻..cheers!

No pics..but did anyone get any of the storm last night ..
Not sure what it was like elsewhere but it was constant rumbling thunder and almost no break in the lightning strikes for about an hour ..( N.W. Northumberland).
Monsoon-like rain ..yet to look outside this morning the ground isn't even damp !
I've never experienced anything like that in my lifetime ..awesome!
( having been out all night it must have scared the near neighbours ginger tom cat ..as when we opened the downstairs window this morning it looked as if it wanted to come in ..this from an animal that is so stuck-up normally that it walks right past you ...well two can play that game ..fk off puss puss....oh and while we're talking stop pissing on my car wheels 😂)
