I have a '24 Rise H30 on order. I'm interested in getting a display. What's the word on either the Shimano SC-EN600 or getting a garmin bike computer that is compatible?

You need a bluetooth device to connect the Garmin. So one of the highlighted items below. But the EM800 is a display. So I'd get that, then decide if you want more data displayed on a garmin.

So excuse my ignorance, I haven't read about this at all. So the EM800 is an even better display that'll work the bike? Will it plug right in like the EN600? I'm always a nerd for the best display/feature set I can get.

Yes. the EM800 will work with the EP600 as shown in the compatibility chart from Shimano. It's not a better display than the EN600 in my opinion, but it does have bluetooth, which the EN600 does not. To get bluetooth with the EN600, you need to also buy the switch, SW-EN600L.

That said. You normally pair the EM800 with the SW-EM800L switch. This is what I did. See this thread about my upgrade.

Oh gosh, the rabbit hole. My new bike has the EN600 switch/lever. Does that make the 800 display not relevant? I need this Homer Simpson'd for me.

You should have mentioned that. Yes. The SW-EN600 switch is normally paired with the EN600 display. The SW-EN600L switch has bluetooth. So you can pair a Garmin to it without any wiring modifications.

So the easiest modification is the Garmin.

To install the EN600 display. You need to re-route your SW-EN600 switch cable to the EN600 display when you install it. Then, the EN600 display has extra ports, which you run a new cable you must also buy, back across to the EN600 switch.

Right- so back to my question- is the en600 the way to go, or get a garmin bike computer that is compatible?

The Garmin offers much more than the display. And as you already have bluetooth. It is the simplest install. So if cost is not a factor. The Garmin will be the superior device.

Keep in mind you can also pair your phone to the bluetooth, mount your phone on a quadlock, and run the ETube Ride App which gives you far more data than both the display and the Garmin.

I use my phone on bluetooth. It gives you all the data, plus any free maps app.

So... money isn't really a factor. I don't want to put my iPhone 15 pro max on the bars. What's the garmin to get? Again it would take me a full day to research this and I'm burned out just finding my next bike to buy after my son "stole" my all carbon YT Izzo.....

I don't run garmin. And I don't run my Google 8 phone on the bars. I run an android phone I bought on Aliexpress for $50. But any Android or Apple Phone will work. So you can buy any less expensive phone. Even second hand would be fine.

But if you have your heart set on Garmin. Then perhaps search Garmin Threads.

I do have an old iPhone in a drawer somewhere and some quad lock mounts. I don't want to pay for service, but maybe I can hotspot to my "good" phone that'll be in my pack.

Yep. That's what I do. Just Hotspot.

Get a bluetooth heart rate monitor. Link it to the ETube Ride App. Check out all the data you can display and store. Run Trailforks or even Google Maps, for maps. And if you are not content. Look into the Garmin.
