Hi all first time on here , I have a big issue with my cube at the moment.
I have only had 5 rides on this bike & 104 miles ,I live in the lake district so plenty of bridal ways & Forest tracks which is all it had done, whilst coming out of the valley obviously uphill the seat post broke away from the diagonal to my utter dismay . So I contacted Tredz how do I purchase it off the bike finally went back but cube say it is a hard impact damage which there is no damage at all to the bike over them the seat post coming away. I am now at my wits end as I have a 4K bike that is basically scrap but I can spend 1.5 k on a new friend Plus vat + fitting which isn't an option as I can afford that, after doing some research cube frames seem to have a problem as it is happened before so I am reaching out for help as I don't know what to do now please see photo .
Cheers for reading & advice

Welcome
Wow thats awful
I cant believe No one is helping
It looks like a poor design and not enough seat post insertion to me past the top tube interface , i see you have the seat high but as long as you are at minimum depth all should have been good
My next port of call would be trading standards (y)

Thank you for getting back to me,
The seat is high but at the height it was when it came to me ,but it's the right height for me I'm 6.5 feet .
But it only has a 170 dropper in it .
I've just got the e bike due to having a lung condition so I could keep riding but now I'm so stressed out I don't know what to do.

Hi, sorry to see the issues you were having, just curious did you manage to get a satisfactory resolution to this or not? I was tempted by the same bike but this report has obviously given me concerns. Many thanks

Hi
I just took the bike to a carbon fibre expert on bike frames in Cheshire yesterday .
& The conclusion was the carbon fibers in the diagonal to the seat post of being laid wrong and was relying on the resin for strength.
So I have emailed Tredz to do the right thing if no I'm going to trading standards & start small claims court proceedings.
I have literally had enough now and for a big firm this is not the way to treat your customers .

Thanks for replying so quick. I'm no expert but looking at the way that has failed (mech Eng degree here), i would agree it points to a manufacturing error/defect. I hope you manage to get it resolved.

As for Tredz/Cube saying its been in a crash, i suggest taking lots of pictures of the rest of the bike and sharing them with Tredz/Cube. The likelihood of being in a crash that caused that amount of frame damage without the bike sustaining other damage or cosmetic marks is slim to none. It would be interesting to hear their explanation for that.......

Keep this post updated if you don't mind. I'll keep looking at other bikes but given the price and spec this model meets a lot of my needs, hence doing research first.

Physics. The seat post insertion point is at the break point. That is obvious from just looking at it. How Tredz and Cube cant come to this conclusion highlights a lack of integrity and is nothing more than brushing responsibility in favour of short term profit loss prevention.

Go to a Carbon fibre specialist and get an independent report done as this will no doubt confirm this. The seat with your weight on it is essentially acting as a lever, the torque on that joint would have been very excessive. There is also no impact damage from the images provided as it would be A, at the point on the rear (which I doubt is even possible without the shock failing) where the yoke smashing in to the rear of the seat stay has caused this or B, right on the joint where the top tube meets the seat stay tube and again, that's a very specific point to have to clobber. **EDIT - I've seen you've done this, bang on!**

I'd then take the report as well as many images of all angles to show no damage back to Tredz and copy in Cube as well as trading standards after raising with them and getting a case reference to see where this leads. If you get no further, then the next point.

I'd then go on all forms of media and copy the report and response tagging in as many Cube team racers and resellers as possible. The damage it'll do to both Tredz and Cube will far outweigh the loss of them fixing their manufacturing problem and the Tredz assembly problem. Any half decent mechanic would see the post would be problematic in that position and I would also indicate a lack of training and awareness in the tech team lead to this failure. They should have suggested a longer dropper with a deeper insertion depth based on your height and the seat heigh requirement but I presume they didn't and as such, as the consumer and not the "professional" I wouldn't expect you to think that something such as that would even be required.

Cowboys.

Hi thanks for your input much appreciated & I couldn't have put it any better.
I did take it to a carbon fiber expert in Cheshire & the. Carbon has not been layered correctly in the joint & it was only relying on the resin so clearly a manufacturing defect.
But I have raised this with Tredz & guess what they are still sticking by what cube has said. But I have asked for the full report from cube to how they have come to their conclusion and I am still waiting for it there's a surprise. I have contacted trading standards and I am waiting for a response as I am so pissed off now it's really stressing me out but will not stop pursuing this issue and I won't be bullied by a big company like cube or Tredz.

Well good news at last ,
I took tredz to the small clams court they still denied all that I had said ,
So it went to mediation which was different but it all went well,
They are giving a full refund & court costs.
So I'm extremely happy now I've finally got rid of the cube & I have a Merida which is a excellent bike I fully recommend one.
Thanks for all your support with the cube much appreciated 👍

So, what was the reason for cube broken seatpost ? I have cube stereo hybrid 140 and I was looking to replace it with new cube like yours.. Now im scared to death. Glad you solved the problem, enjoy your new ride.

Hi
I got it new & on the 5th ride it snapped whilst going up hill ,
I got told basically I abused it or crashed it, but the bike was in perfect condition apart from the obvious,
So I took it to a carbon fiber expert who basically said the carbon fiber webbing in the joint was all done incorrectly hence the brake,
So I would stay well clear of that model sorry.
