Hunt Trail Wide V2 OR Hope fortus 30W Pro 5?

So I've narrowed it down to the wheels within my budget. Mostly ride local trails with bike parks a few times a year. Appreciate any experience and opinions please.

I have fortus 30 which have had a hard life but are still holding out 4 years later. Bought another set for my 2nd bike. I'd definately recommend them.

I have a set of roval DH 27.5 boost wheels from a kenevo expert for sale by the way - nearly new, think theyve done about 3 miles. £175

In 3-1/2 years have now cracked rims (next to spokes) twice on Hunt Trail Wide V2 rear wheels in 4,200 miles - to be fair they were moved over from my analog mtb and are not built to take eMTB abuse.

So have just switched to Hunt E_ALL eBike wheels which are a bit heavier but much tougher. Same price as Trail Wide wheels I think. Really like the Trail Wide's but even though I'm north of 70 years old I do seem to be pretty hard on wheels, no idea why (2022 Trek Rail alloy). Can't beat Hunt Wheels service, they're great.

Always got along with hunt wheels on non e-bike but I’ve since bought some Silt wheels ( priced a chunk cheaper than hunt ), mainly due to free first rim and 50% replacements after if damaged as I’ve caused some damage to the stock wheels that came on my ebike without really hammering into rocks etc. Company is based in Ireland if that changed anything

NOT HUNT!
I rebuild so many Hunt wheels, crack/dings/bends etc. Hope are a little better, look through my page in my signature.

The latest eMTB 6069-T6 rims with higher spoke counts and HD hubs are very strong and come with a 3 year warranty.

Can't speak for Hunt road wheels which I'd guess is mostly what you see.

I dont really do road wheels, the main ones I see are the trail wide.

TBF Trail Wide's are not suitable for eMTB abuse.

As said before, my Trail Wide's were V2 and came off my analog bike (Trek Fuel EX). Not really up to eMTB use and I think I was lucky to get away with >4,000 miles of my Trek Rail with the rear rim repaired at 3,000 miles. Trail Wide's are now apparently V3.

Wife had Trail Wide V2's on her Rail for exactly the same reason which had lasted 1,500 miles without failure. Because she rides the same as me* I figured they would also finally fail so took them off to keep as spares and also put Hunt E_ALL wheels on her bike.

* We're both ex motorcycle offroad/supermoto riders so if the front is straight we don't give a flying f7ck what the bike's back end is doing.
 
I've got a set of Hunt E_Enduro (discontinued) and a set of E_All Mountain wheels and have been happy with them. The E_Enduro's were way overbuilt. They were impressive but heavy (over 2500g). The only problem I've had was the E_Enduro rear wheel's axle broke at the threads. One email to Hunt and I had another on the way.

I weighed Hunt E_ALL wheels out of the box (they shipped with rim tape and valves fitted):

Front 1031 g
Rear 1283 g
-----------
Total 2314 g
 
I have the HUNT E_All Mountain mullet wheels and they've been great but axle snapped on the rear recently after about 18 months use. Got in touch with Hunt via their website and they sent me another axle for free so it's a highly recommended from me.

Don't like the sound of a broken axle! :(

We're still using the stock rear axles that came with our 2022 alloy Trek Rails, are they OK? Or should we upgrade the axles and if so what to?

@rsmart If you want to save a bunch of money, I've got a set of Hope Fortus 30 Pro 4 27.5" wheels for sale. Rear has the steel HG hub and both have orange hubs. In very good condition, boxed with rim tape. Rear can come tubeless fitted with an insert and excellent Kryptotal tyre.

I have found them a great wheel and a very good after sales service
Easy for me to do business with them I only live a handful of miles away from there factory
 
I've ran Hunt V2 Trail Wide on my normal bike and Ebike in the lakes, never experienced any issues even on the heavier ebike, not tried bike parks but the deffo cope with the rough of the lakes.
 
I'm on Hope Pro 5 ' Fortus 30s ( the rear wheel hub is the 'e' spec) no complaints here. Not the lightest but I'd swap lightness for getting home (or back to the car) when 20 miles away in the middle of nowhere. If your just doing local or bike parks, maybe it's not such an issue if your prang a wheel.
