Why is my EP8 less powerful?

Bought my bike recently, a 2021 Commencal Meta Power 29.

Everything works. Bike seems to have had a software derestriction installed, I am able to set the max assist speed to 50km/h

I have configured my Profile 1 Boost to max out all 3 sliders on ETube and the bike is set to use Profile 1.

The issue is that my bike is noticeably less powerful i.e. generating less torque at low cadence compared to my friends bike also using an ep8. He has a Merida e160 500.

Does anyone know why that might be? Is there anything u can do to check the settings perhaps some kind of motor mapping?

I thought about flashing to latest official firmware, but I didn’t want to lose the derestrict…

Thanks in advance!

Although you've adjusted the profile 1 setup make sure the bike hasn't defaulted to profile 2, or set both profiles the same they try the bike.
Is the software all upto date?, also check for any error codes in the maint. Section of E-Tube.

Thanks for the response!
Just checked the error logs, nothing recent only a few speed sensor errors back in 2022.

Softwares are not up to date because I don’t want to lose the destricted firmware that it currently has on it.

I have tripled checked the profile as well. I will set both profile 1 and 2 the same just in case

Different batteries are set to different amp output.

My ep801 lost 20% after 6000 miles and 14 months. Installed new battery, inly got about 10% more back.

shimano had a lot of error codes and bikes shutting off mid ride, a ton of warranty claims and error codes. And recalled all their trendpower batteries for Canyons. I believe the recall was more than brittle plastic housings

I personally suspect they turned down their batteries a little to lessen this. Meaning they are no longer 85nm and 600w of power.

The reason is... your friends bike with the same ep8 will be running on the newer firmwear... so it still has the same 85nm and 500w of power but the torque sensor in your friends bike with be at a higher % rate with the newer firmwear which makes the bike seem a lot more puncher on acceleration... i noticed it when i upgraded my firmwear a few upgrade's ago

That is the best reason I have seen for updating the software on my EP8. All these below are latest as at 24th Jul'21.

Battery: BT-E8036 Shimano 630Wh.

Motor: DU-EP800 Software version 4.1.5

Display: SC-EM800 Software version 4.1.0

Mode switch: SW-EM800-L Software version 3.0.1

Power on/off switch: EW-SW300 Software version 3.0.2

My ep801 lost a lot of power, thought it was the battery as I mentioned above. That was not the case.

Gears are getting chunky inside motor for low speed, higher speeds are fine and smooth.

Found this out trying walk mode and motor is spinning and making a clicking sound and bike will not move.

So its in the shop for warranty replacement

Try your walk mode, if its making noise you know its the low speed gears are stripped. Mine worked similar to trail mode but turned down a hair, for a few hundred miles
