How many kms are you getting from your 2nd gen 630 battery?

I have an EP801 and I’m lucky if I get 20kms in eco set to 63nm. I took out a demo Bosch with a 750 battery set to eMTB, equivalent to trail with and got 23kms out of it with 37% left which works out to be less than 500wh of usage, frustrating I can’t get more range out of the battery.

Ive got a bosch CX Gen 4 with 750wh battery. Ive got my eco set up similar to yours, 65nm max and I can do just on 101.8 km on 100% battery.
 
I've got an Enduro 160mm full suspension 29er with 2.5 shredda tires on it set to ~22psi. It's ~56lbs and I'm at ~185lbs. In trail mode with 85nm, start assist aggressive, assist character turned up 3 notches from factory, and carryover at max I can get ~24 miles (38.6km). I'd say something is wrong with your battery, or you're dragging an anchor behind you 😂.
 
I weigh roughly 95kg, ride a 160mm travel bike with EP6 motor and in Trail with occasional Boost mode usage, on standard hilly single track with plenty of climbs, I get around 30-35km.
 
How much climbing are you doing? My Gen2 Levo gave me 46km with 953m climbing with 95% of my 500wh battery used up.
 
Thanks for all the replies, the ride I did on the Bosch motor was the same type of ride I do on the EP801. I’m 240lbs but comparing the two bikes the EP801 is eating up more battery at a lower setting. I’m going to see if I can get a new battery but the battery test all checks out with the linkage device

So you're saying that you only get 12 miles from a fully charged battery on Eco set to 63nm, that's ridiculous, I regularly get 34 miles, 55km on an EP8 with a 635wh battery set at roughly 65nm on eco but occasionally switching to trail, that's vastly increased using my other shimano system with a 756wh battery.

Yep, doesn't make sense at all
 
I have similar issues with gen2 630 battery and EP801 in a full fat enduro bike. I can get far more range with my Rise and a 540 battery.
On a recent ride I rinsed my battery to 4% in just 22km ride with 880m climbing.
My 2 companions on Bosch CX bikes with similar sized batteries had between 20 and 30% left.
The weekend before I did 32km with 1400m of climbing on the Rise and had 38% battery left.
The big bike definitely has issues but no idea how to go about sorting it or proving it either.

That's definitely a problem. Last weekend I did 29km ride with 810m elevation on my Fuel Ex-e and had 25% battery left. Thats only 50nm motor and 360wh battery.

I'd lean more towards mode usage and rider input.
 
I charged my battery and noticed the orange LED didn’t go out after the charging cycle, I removed the battery and checked the level with the green LED on the battery and get five flashes saying it’s fully charged, the green on the battery is on when charging and went out when charged.
Strange the charger LED stays on now
 
On the Bosch POWER readout is that rider power only or is that assistance power only (not including rider power) or is that rider power and assistance power combined?

The Bosch I rode is only battery level and assistance level, a friend of mine has the screen that shows more info but it’s pretty big
 
rHere is a pretty good comparison with between the different drives and it does confirm the battery usage of the EP801 is seems, SHimano needs to figure it out because the Bosch is kicking it’s ass

This is why these test are shit, there's so much tuning that you can do, why limit yourself to the bike manufacturers stock settings? If the Shimano is breaking loose when you start, turn it down. If the DJI is turned up too much for technical climbing, adjust it down to match the other motors. If Bosch is beating everything else on efficiency, tune the other motors to be similar to the Bosch feeling and see if they are comparable on wh/mile then. Lazy test that has very little real world value.

I get what you’re saying but they tested them how they came which makes sense. I had the 630Wh Gen2 Shimano battery on my old 2023 Merida. I rode 80km in Trail Mode on an outback gravel roads ride, averaging 21 kph. Still had 20% battery left. I could have easily done over 100km. And probably about 130km in Eco Mode.

This is why range tests are so subjective, and Vertical metres climbed, is a much better indicator of the motor and battery's performance.

Something is very wrong or it's below freezing if you're only getting 20kms, I get 24 miles (38.6Km) routinely with 1 bar left in trail mode, and I have it more aggressive than "stock". This is around 7-10°C, if it's below 0° battery life definitely takes a hit.

For sure it does but riding the Bosch in the same temp, around 0-7 degrees, the Bosch uses less. I’ll see if I can get a new battery or a different one to try

So first post you said 20km in eco, now you're saying 24km in trail? I think you need to pedal harder and rely on the motor less 😂. I get better wh/km on my ep801 than you do on your Bosch.

I don know, I’m reporting what I find but I’m glad you find it amusing. Can’t just take the information without trying to discredit what I’m reporting, I’m not sure what you are getting at. These are calculations based on my last ride in the same conditions I typically ride in.
 
Well I have now had a look back through my rides and I am consistently getting 22km (13 miles) and about 800m (2600') of climbing on a battery (0-5% left). That will be some eco, mostly trail and a bit of boost on steep climbs. I did notice an anomoly last night. Both my mate (Bosch with similar size battery) and me were matching battery use within a % (as we often do). Just before the last climb i am on 46% and he on 47%. At the top of the climb my garmin watch says 38%, his reading is 39%. However, my bike has dropped from 3 bars to a solid single red bar. Then the bike stops sommunicating with my watch. So at top of the last decent to car I turn the bike off and back on. The watch reconnects and shows 7%. My mate is still on 28%. I finish the ride on 4%, he is on 24%.
So what happened on that last climb?

Seems odd for sure, it’s almost like the EP801 needs more juice than the Bosch under heavy loads or maybe the Shimano batteries aren’t as efficient

If you have damaged cells. The bottom end of the battery will not last as long. It like only have 3.5 cells in parallel instead of 4.

How many cycles on your battery ? How many cycles on your mates ? This is readable in the battery report.

I am meticulous with my charging. I leave my battery partly discharged and only charge to 100% the night before I ride. Thus I experience really consistent and long battery life.

And the other factor is how much effort the rider puts in. I rode 62km on the weekend, and only used 40% of a 480Wh battery. So that's less than 200Whrs. That's because I was riding with my partner, and she is slowish, So I'm using mostly my legs, rather than the motor.

So many factors effect battery range. It's why manufacturers give such wide variations in range.

I am way fitter and about 20kg less weight than my mate on the bosch. Will check cycles on battery but it is only 6 months old and one of 2 ebikes I own so not gonna be huge number. My mate has had his bike 2 years or more and he bought it seconf hand!

My battery has around 73 cycles on it and health says 94% but it’s been pretty much the same since I got it

Today we did a 35 minute climb and showed 3 bars at the top, did the downhill and did a short climbed up to another trail and down that still three bars, started another climb and dropped into the red really quick then into the reserve mode made it up and down, had 1% battery left. Was around about a 18km ride. The last climb was steep but was shocked how quickly it just dropped off.
