The display was damaged and I don't have $220 for a replacement. Is there a way to bipass this? I can only get it to turn on while the display plugged in by using the battery power switch but not the power button on the frame.

Hi Welcome
No bypass that i know of as the bike communicates with the display to operate (y)

You could try here also for info:

yes you can. but it needs a replacement cable. you can still connect to the bike with the replacement cable via Bluetooth to Garmin.

Does the cable to the button on the frame, come from the display, or the motor ? If from the display. Try plugging the button on the frame direct to the motor.

The cable from the power button goes to the motor and cable from the selector goes to the display then from the display to the motor. I tried running the selector to the motor and nothing. The ribbon in the display is ripped in the middle.

I ordered a new display, now the power button on the frame doesn't function properly. I have to power on the bike with the button on the battery which is difficult, but that makes the button on the frame flash a few times. Any ideas how to resolve this?

That means the battery in the switch has gone (lack of use) so back to the shop or a new switch. A very flawed design.

I was able to run my EP801 without the display just no Bluetooth, now a have a Bosch with only the frame button and handle bar switches, it’s hard to get used to after having a display

yes there is
You said "Lack of use" when you should have been more specific or perhaps you did not know the battery inside of the frame switch is "rechargeable" and simply needs to be charged along with the main bike battery which is the actual fix for this. I disassembled the switch to learn this and had to order a new frame switch. To test this, I charged the main battery with the frame switch. Merlin Cycles has these frame switches for a discount. Mine should arrive is a few days.

I've not been able to do this but I have a EP8.

I bought a new display and a new rechargeable on/off switch, plugged in the power selector, it works. Problem solved. Now if I could only find a larger chain ring and a new battery for my Giant Stance E SyncDrive Sport.

You have 2 wires that go into the display. 1 from the switch and one from the motor. Try taking the wire from the motor and clipping it into the switch and removing the wire from the switch to the display. This way your bypassing the display ..
