• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

I've read of some riders getting Bosch dealers to reconfigure motors from rim magnet sensing to chain stay (spoke magnet / disc magnet) sensing.

Has anyone done this?

Any advice on finding / convincing a dealer to let me do this on my Canyon?

The shop where I purchased my bike does it all the time. By going to the remote sensor, they're able to derestrict the bikes.

That would be the only reason I'd consider goin to an external sensor. Granted, the rim magnet is a bit ugly, but the internal sensor is inherently more reliable than an external pickup with long wires.

Hello, Do you know how they do it? Do they install new software or?
I know a dealer who wants to do it but he have never done it.
Thx

It's a parameter adjustment that he does from his laptop. The factory will be able to provide details.

My dealer here in told me that Canyon has to provide him with the correct file for changing the Bosch settings. They refuse to do so. I called the Canyon service myself and they said the same.
It's not only my last ebike with a Bosch motor but also the last Canyon bike I buy. And I buy a new bike every 3 years...
