When my headset starts to creak it’s usually a sign it’s time for a bit of maintenance. All that’s usually needed is cleaning and reapplying some grease. Doesn’t matter how log it’s been since the last time it was done. If you’ve been riding a lot, if its been wet, dust, muddy, doesn’t matter, dirt will find it’s way in. Its also a good time to check wear on your bearings. I will also pack the bearing with good quality waterproof grease. Even if the bearings are said to be sealed, it doesn’t mean 100% sealed. Often i find that the bike shops are not very generous in applying grease when they put a bike together, i.e. new bike. I would do this quick maintenance before taking it to your bike shop, if the creak is still there you could at least rule out this one.
