Morning folks,
I thought this may interest some of you.
I have an MY20 Trance with the usually key actuated lock mechanism.

This system has two main issues.

1) dirt gets in and makes it hard to operate.
2) its adjustment only suits one battery.

if you have a spare battery as I do, it’s likely one will be looser than the other. Not ideal.

GIANT rectified this by bringing out a new torx operated Lock with friction limiters to stop you over tightening. This draws the battery up into the frame and pushes it down into the connector very nicely.
naturally I wondered if it would fit my Trance, and Giant wouldn’t commit an answer so I decided to take one for the team and risk spending £65 on the parts.

Result, it fits just fine.
it didn’t actually need the mounting frame, that part would have carried over, so this is a £49 retail job.

I found a grommet that fits nicely too, happy to measure that grommet if anyone wants to follow suit.

Think I’m going to have to do this . My partners 2020 Liv embolden had a fault that had lbs taking out lock to get to ridecontrol wire join in the compartment above the lock . it was harder to get lock to open after this and both keys are slightly bent . I have 4 batteries, 2 500w that came with bikes and I bought 2 625w also . Been using the 625‘s on both bike but one is tighter on hers so I only use it on my Stance . I put my 500 on her bike today and it’s stuck hard, maybe get if off by loosening the screws holding lock mechanism but had to give up due to midges attacking . Any further information on the lock change would be a greatly appreciated like the grommet size .

yeah, multiple batteries cause issues, I also have two and both are different. The locks are a pain and look crap too, I really love this upgrade, battery has never rattled or been a pain to get in or out since. 👌

I’m away from the bike for the weekend but if you just measure the hole in your frame and order a grommet for that size hole.

Have you got a link too the parts used my battery rattles like mad,2019 trance and now getting the battery fault light

I just went to my LBS and showed him this thread and he ordered the parts in the pics . Got a pack of 25mm grommets from B+Q which plug the hole where the lock used to be . You don’t need the mounting frame just the lock.

Glad the topic was of value to you mate. 👌🏼😎

Finally did this tonight,What a difference,It’s taken a while because the bike started behaving,But no extension peice with mine and giant say it can’t be bought separately

The top one is designed for the new frames with no bulge at lock so you are just going to be left with a gap when converted To older bikes .

I wonder if you got a later part number? As you can see from the image, mine came with it.

I cant see it being of any value anyway, just adds extra weight, i wouldn't waste my time buying and fitting it.
