Hate to do one of these before the bike has even been announced but after giving a workmate a ride on my Rail he is hankering for a one himself. What changes do you think will occur with 2023 models?

From memory new models are released in October

The longer reach geo numbers on more models?
Smart system on lower spec models?
Presuming Trek will stay with Bosch is there a new MY23 Bosch CX?
Will the industry wide increase in prices occur?

Unless I'm reading this wrong the UK Trek website already has the 2023 models listed. They don't look too different from the current models.

I see they say 2023 (Gen3) but have no idea if they are new models or not. I would expect changes in the lower models.

Trek seems to do a real upgrade every 2-3 years so likely no changes or maybe minor things like colors, maybe some minor component changes.

This sounds like it could be very possible. Mid October and still not even a sniff of any info around on new Rail's.

I can say one thing for sure, they will be more expensive (especially in NZ where our $NZD has dropped nearly 20% to the $USD)

Has anyone heard anything about what the 2023 Rail lineup is going to look like? Very close to pulling the trigger on a '22 9.8 XT as I can get a good deal currently. Only thing that would change my mind would be new models coming out with the latest Bosch integration. Orbea Wild looks nice but the price here in NZ is laughable for the spec.

This is just a guess but the 2022 has the bosch smart system and trek seems to go 3 years between major updates. I wouldnt expect much difference in the 2023 vs 2022, but who knows. The one almost-certain difference- the 2023s will cost more. The price for my bike went up $150 since I bought it.

Also it seems to me that it didnt appear on theit website until like April(?) so you may not see 2023 models for awhile.

This may not work for you but I got a 9.8GX last year and swapped in the wireless for $600 vs the $1000 extra (now $1100...) that Trek wanted for the 9.8AXS.

When I was buying my Gen 2 Rail 5 the guy at the Trek shop brought up the Gen 3, it has the latest Bosch tech and a price increase but I didn’t look in any more detail. Think it has a June/July release date.

I have the same bike, also in NZ. Even if Trek released a new Rail this month the chances of getting one in NZ within the next 6 months would be fairly low IMHO.

I would get the 9.8XT now its a great bike and I expect price increases and minimal changes for MY23.

What size frame do you ride and what height are you? Seems like only Mediums available in NZ and im fairly in the middle of M & L. The 150mm dropper on the medium isn't ideal either.

Considering going ahead and making some adjustments given the good price and availability of everything else.

I was in the same boat between sizes, I'm 178cm but my last enduro bike was 455mm reach. Happy on the Medium Rail at 456mm but will add 10mm longer stem down the line.

Torpedo 7 had them for $11,999 on Black Friday which is a bargain when you look at the competition. I paid full RRP but I'm extremely happy with the bike.

Here in NZ all Trek Rails and Fuel EXEs are heavily discounted. 15% off mostly. Maybe we will see some 2023 models in the next couple of months.

I found there’s not much difference between the 2021 XL and the new geo 2022 L frame dimensions - same wheelbase and the older geo XL has 6mm more reach. I’m 179cm and the 2021 XL fits very well with a short stem.

As regards prices, personally i think E bikes, may be abit to strong, current climate not helping, and the Covid craze may well have peaked!
Whats other peoples thoughts?
Eg- 2022 Trek Rail 9.8 750wh 16% discount all sizes ( Blazing bikes)UK£8345 now£6995
2022 Spesh Levo comp 700wh 22% discount all colours and sizes (Fudge cycles)UK £6950 now £5399

Increased demand in 2021 prompted higher ordering for 2022 sales which because the war in Ukraine and recession reduced 2022 demand the result was over supply.

Yes, that could also be an issue.. I have seen Specialized in NZ offering large discounts on last years models.
