Trail Centre: Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire, UK

Yeah I kept quiet at the old girl with the yappy hamster/dog

But the woman and 2 kids were on a blind descent, I nearly wiped them completely out.
It's bonkers - the entire trail is marked as a mountain bike trail yet people still think they can walk down it with noise cancelling airpods in and not a care in the world

Good way to end up in hospital

Park up in Thornton le Dale, have a short ride through to Dalby visitors centre or pick up the red route at section 30 (I think).
Spend the hard earned cash you saved on beer and food in the village.

when I started riding Dalby it was £2 in an honesty box, this was to help maintain the forest drive, long time before there were any recognised routes. Then it started getting more and more popular and the price kept creeping up and up, then a visitors centre was built and prices went up again..back then a forestry parking pass covered all forestry car parks and was less than half the price it is now for a single location.
I’m not sure much if any of this revenue is put back into the trails, I was under the impression it was a volunteer group doing all the work.

I used to work in a volunteer group at Kielder ..the money generated goes into buying the raw materials needed to maintain the trails ..but maybe not all of it ?

Not to bad if you are there a couple of times a week like myself ;)

Wasn’t it Singletrack Action run by Adrian Carter from Pace cycles that used to maintain and build trails in Dalby before they moved out and Big Bear bikes took over the cycle hire.
I know Adrian built the last Blue berm switchbacks towards the end of the Red route.

Don’t know who maintains them now but some of the sections are in need of repair.

Purple Mountain were in there for a while ..not sure what they did for Dalby ..but contributed next to nothing at Kielder in terms of volunteering their time for trail maintenance ..local riders were shocked & appalled they were awarded the bike hire over an already established business ..the proprietor had contributed hundreds of voluntary man hours in terms of trail building ..and event organising ..shoddy decision making by the F.C. at the time ..

Yep Purple Mountain had the bike hire and shop plus the cafe in Dalby before Pace took the bike hire and shop on and the Forestry took the cafe back.
Trails were in there best condition back in 2010, 2011 when the World Cup was held there.

There has been ongoing maintenance and a fair bit of work has been done this summer. Mainly laying more gravel over the flatter sections, and I’ve noticed a few berms have been beefed up. Nothing spectacular , but some work has been done

The features at Dixon’s Hollow are falling to bits though, and I’m sure the tables have had their height reduced, unless I just thought they were MASSIVE when I first started riding them ?

Some folks will do anything to get out of trying a sarnie with Pease Pudding in it...
Gutted pal was looking foretold it ?. It’s the only Saturday that me & my 2 bro’s have been about goi out since before COVID & First since we lost our mum to the infection ?

Sounds like a pretty good reason to miss a bike ride ..there will be other rides for sure ..
Have a great day with your brothers ..really sorry to hear about your mum ..seems like a nice way to remember her ..

Evening all

Here’s a little teaser video of what to expect at Dalby, went for a roll around the red route early this morning:

(If you’re going to watch it, change the settings to 720p or above as it seems to default to 360p)

It was quite damp early this morning and I still have summer tyres on, some of the rocky sections such as ‘The Gully’ & ‘Vera Lynn’ where slippy as fook, like marbles on ice. The majority of the route is running absolutely fine

I’ll do a head count on this thread and post up a list of who’s coming, looks like we have quite a posse ??

Looks canny like bonny lad ..
Still no sign of " L's " elusive Rise ..?

Fingers crossed it might make its maiden voyage on the 2nd October at Dalby ? Supposedly being shipped from Spain in the next four / five days

Bike shop are then doing a few upgrades such as brakes and invisiframe and then it’ll be ready to roll ??

i'd be checking carl's spreadsheet for any other upgrades.

Haha no thanks I’m not messing with the suspension. Bought it for a fast & lightweight trail bike, not to convert it into a downhill enduro monster ?

I’ve only done it once on my own but I’d love to do it with others and learn a bit.
If the weathers decent that weekend and I don’t hold you all up I’d definitely be up for it!

Don't worry about holding us up, we're not that fast to start with! Add in all the chat and it'll take hours to get round... ?

Yes join us and don’t worry about being slow. It won’t be a Strava KOM chasing ride! I’ll probably give a little trail brief before entering the more challenging sections just to warn of certain features, and a nice sociable cruise through all the easier sections

If we are doing orbea test rides I'd be interested in seeing how it compares to my monster truck ?
