Remove, throw in the bin, and fit something capable of stopping you.
I put Magura MT7’s on mine... and the Expert came with the G2 RSC’s. Absolutely hopeless, and I believe the Guide R’s are even worse?

Swapped to Codes on mine (had a spare set) and so much better. The Guide R’s felt poor.

200mm yes. SRAM brakes are to be used till they require service or break then throw them in the trash and upgrade to Shimano Deore/slx/xt.

I debated but eventually switched to Magura MT7s. Wished I had switched sooner.
Cheers all. Got Guide R’s on my Whyte 629... and they’re OK for that purpose. They seem like a weak link on a faster, heavier bike though. I’ve got Code R’s on the Trance E and have no complaints there either. I’ll investigate getting Codes stuck on there before I pick it up I think.
Lack of stoping power, faded really quickly... and REALLY loud squealing when damp (appreciate that was the pads).
MT7’s are streets ahead. Chalk and cheese...
I’m close to pressing the button on an Expert Carbon. Unfortunately due lockdown I can’t get a test ride here in Scotland and am still dithering over whether to get a M or a L. Some very useful information from folks when I asked a few pages ago, and I’m just looking to see if anyone else of similar size can share their experiences with me. I am 5 ft 9.5 (176cm) tall with a 30 inch (76mm) inside leg, so short arsed really !
The sizing chart says medium but nearly large. Reading the geometry data the medium is quite cramped but will work with the 150mm dropper. The Large is a bit longer than any of my other bikes and would likely need a 125 dropper. Stand over also a bit high...

5'9" 31" and Medium fits nicely. L would be too high standover, in fact I installed 27.5" wheels to get it a bit lower and to quicken the steering.

Interested also in this, I'm a touch bigger at 5ft 10 and 31" but right on the cusp of sizes. Currently on a E120 size L which is fine for normal XC riding but when i want a bit of a play I find it on the big side
@iainc Same size as you. I don’t own one but tested an FF in medium and an SL in large. A year ago I chose a medium Orange Surge (long reach, slacker, more modern-ish geometry) over the FF as it felt much better to me.
The SL though I tested a couple of months back (before lockdown) and whilst it was a short ride due to health and still smaller than my Orange it felt ok to me. It’s still sizing up to avoid a geometry I’d like to see a little longer and slacker but after my ill health I expect to change my riding and the SL might suit that.

For those riding the stock shock, what stroke length are you getting from it? I've been unsure about mine from purchase; whilst it's never bottomed out, I never seem to use the entire stroke. So, after letting all the air out, I confirmed that where my sag ring ends up each ride is indeed the fullest extent of the travel. Reinflated and in the work stand, this measures up to a stroke length of exactly 50mm! Is this just me, or have others experienced this with the stock shock? For info, size Medium frame.

Medium. Anyone 5’10 or under should be on a medium Specialized IMO.

The Fox 34 is on the lighter side of the spectrum - although not quite as light as I expected.
I swapped mine out for a 160mm Lyric Ultimate, and only increased the weight from 1.929kg to 2.003kg.
Although I’m conscious of the weight, I’d definitely take performance over weight.
I have 35 mm so far, including riding off some curbs just to check it.
***Oops, sorry, did not understand the question. I will check the shock some day to see what full travel is.

I think the 34 Rythym can weigh 2-300 grams more than your 34 Performance
Ah - ok...
I was surprised at how heavy the Performance were after reading all of the reviews of the SL and how it came with lightweight components. Lots of ‘not fit for purpose’ comments on the forks!

Here you go it fits fine as I got a large frame . Even fits with an extender . But I am changing back to air for now and ordered a 210x55 Cane creek dB IL air shock .

I’m 177 wtih 29 inseam .. im a short arse and I’ve got a large .. yes stand over is a little bit higher but I do have longer torso . I’m with 150mm axs dropper and I wish the stack height of the dropper was 5mm shorter as it will be spot on but I compromised as I tried the medium and it was just way to small .. I’ve also put a 50mm stem on too as I still think the large is to small on reach but now it’s fine . You will be fine with 30 inseam and 150mm dropper as think the stack height on the oem dropper is not as bad as the axs stack . Your in Glasgow I’m in Dumfries ..
No shops got a medium and large in Glasgow ? Once lockdown is eased off I’m off to glentress (so in a couple of weeks maybe) you can then sit on mine .

I’m 5.10 and love the large ..
Could never go medium , but I do have a large 19 stumpy expert .. stand over is a little more on the Levo sl but I only ever put my feet down on big berms and tight corners and that’s at an angle and feet touch the ground fine .. when coming to a stand still I get off the seat anyway . Levo sl also has slightly Longer reach in large vs large .
That’s really helpful, thanks. Dales in Glasgow are being very helpful with their limited stock, but it may be I can come to Dumfries before they get stock in, so a very kind offer that I may well take you up on when Nicola allows !
