I'm having an internal debate on this, 700 wh is a 30% increase, so expect a 30% weight increase on bigger battery. I don't have the weight on the 540wh but I think it is 5-6lbs, so you'll add 1.5ish lbs to bike for 700wh. Can't decide if 2 540W batteries wouldn't suit me better, keeping one in truck or on a huge ride in backpack. My favorite local trail is a loop, so passing by the truck for a battery swap would be practical.

Price not known on 700w, but 540w is $650
 
Good point. I have a couple rides/climbs that 2 540's would be needed. Debatable whether id ever use a 540 and a 700 in a day. Maybe we'll see 540's pop up for sale cheap from people that are buying 700's?
 
ill definitely be going for the 700 and use it as my main battery with the 540 as a spare/backup.
 
Hey, i will go for two 540 batterys. I Think the 700 is much bigger an comes out the frame to the front wheel.
 
What is the mAh rating on the battery modules that have been used to built the Decoy battery? If they use same quantity of 18650 batteries with higher mAh rating, wouldn’t the form factor stay the same? Maybe slight change on the weight.
 
Rob had said it has a bump on it, but that was a while ago..

I only need the 700wh batt when I ride with Levo's that have them. I cannot go as far and have to make the rider shorter for them.. so I can make it back.
 
I am still a bit "on the fence" regarding the 700wh battery.

Sure I want the extra range, but not sure if I am willing to accept the extra weight trade off :unsure:

The current battery is just over 8 lbs … adding a 10lb battery (assuming here) is where I am struggling a bit :cool:

Will wait and see what the future brings …….

Just for information, Li-S cells will be probably available for the mass production in 2-3 years.
Li-S is ~160x more efficient than Li-Ion, cheaper and lighter.
So, we could hope ~5000km range with current battery size. So probably 500km with some cells in a classic frame tube :p:love:

Efficiency does not equal Capacity so your Range figures aren’t close. Also 2-3 years is a bit optimistic. They are barely figuring things out. We’ll see it first on smart phones and Electric cars. When that starts to happen, then it will happen soon for ebikes
 
Indeed, I check the scientist publication. Only 500Wh/kg instead of 100-250 Wh/kg for Li-ion. Anyway, this looks nice better.
The news say scientists solved the last issue to start industrial production. Let be pessimistic: nothing before 2 years.

As I know, the 700 is not about add more cells, but replace cells by more efficient version (and probably add some 2-3 cells too).
So I dont except 30% more weight.
The 540Wh battery is most likely 30 21700 5000mAh cells in a 10s3p configuration. The 700Wh will probably be 40 21700 5000mAh cells in a 10s4p configuration so will be approx 30% heavier and larger.
Adding 2-3 cells won't work.
 
The difference between a 504Wh and 700Wh battery for the Levo is approx. 700gms.
There is a thread somewhere here where I weighed both a few months back.
 
Different cells being used there though I expect. I'm guessing, but it looks like the 504 is 40 18650 cells and the 700 is 40 21700 with same number of cells, hence the same form factor. YT have already said the 700 will be physically larger and bulge out from the downtube.
 
Right now the bottom of the battery where the DECOY logo is is completely flat. If they make this section rounded it will look just fine. If they keep it flat and just extend the depth out by say an inch it will look odd. I’m pretty sure they will make it rounded and it will blend in nicely with the bike.
 
YT needs to contact Elon Musk and he will come out with a 1000wh battery in under 5lbs lol

Elon I am sure would be up to the task :LOL: … Alternatively I was thinking that after 35 years, somebody would have finally figured out how to retrofit a "flux capacitor" into an e-bike by now too :unsure:(y)
 
Review on PB for the new Kenevo may shed some light …. looks like Rusty and Doomanic may be correct that the batteries should be interchangeable and about 2 lbs heavier. Referencing the current weight of the 540 may put it just over (or close to) 9 lbs for the 700wh version.

"Apart from the Specialized 700Wh M2-series custom battery that the Kenevo Expert comes with, a 500Wh battery is also available. Both use the same amount of cells, but different types, with the larger battery extending your bike’s range by about 40%. The 700Wh battery uses the 21700 type, weighing in a 3,840g, and the 500Wh model uses 18650 cells and is said to weigh 750 grams less. It’s possible to swap between both batteries."

Albeit 3840 grams (the 700wh specialized battery) equals 8.45 lbs. I am assuming the extra weight in the YT battery is due to the mounting bracket ??

If they can redesign the mounts, perhaps they can bring the latest battery in a bit lighter and close to the Levo weight ... hoping (y)

I suspect YT is focusing on targeting an end weight comparable to the Levo .. hence the delay. Pure speculation of course, but that is what "internet experts" (who are not really experts) like me do - lol :cool:

YT are already using the 21700 cells on your 540Wh battery. people are comparing it to other manufacturers 6-700wh batteries which mostly are using 18500 so your 540wh battery is better and more efficient all round than you think it is.
I’m certain there’s still room in the down tube for the bigger battery without it sticking out from the bike any further on the outside. Get your measuring tape out and you’ll see what I mean.
The real question is though, and let’s be honest with ourselves, does anyone actually run out of battery in a typical ride out - not many I bet.
I’m not even considering getting the 700wh when it comes out, I think we have all convinced outselves we need the bigger one when I bet for the most of us we don’t.
 
I base these EBike batteries like Tesla cars the bigger the battery the more miles you get, it also gives you piece of mind that you have extra in the tank and not worry when you do an epic ride with buddies
 
There is room in the frame. But currently, all the cells are located between the fix. Hard to add more ☹️
540kw is enough for small trip. Around 60km and 1000d+ in eco for me. It's not enough for big one. Around 100km and 2500d+ for me
 
I suspect it may never come given Shimano are releasing the new EP8 motor later this year and a 630wh internal battery - if I was a betting man I would expect an all new Decoy for 2021 using both.
 
I called YT in the US last week and it is still coming. I am also disappointed it has taken this long but lets see what happens.
 
If the rumors are true no need for YT to come out with a new Decoy since the new motor will be an easy swap
