The Verdict

The Gen 4 motor exists to bury the 2.x belt era, and 14 months in it is broadly succeeding: two confirmed motor swaps in everything read, with the defining fault being the battery-nest connection dropout (8 reporters), handled fast and free in every report read.

The cost is character: more rattle and less silk than the 2.x it replaced, which Specialized formally calls normal. The OTA history shows the upside and the style: more power genuinely arrives by firmware, three months after it was promised.
