Brose / Specialized 1.x–2.x reliability
The forum's biggest cautionary tale, and its most misread one: belt failures (104 reporters), sprag-clutch deaths (107) and water ingress (176) made the serial replacement loop a defining ownership pattern, and Specialized largely honoured it, including the July 2020 four-year warranty extension on 2.1 motors.
The fine print mattered: each replacement carried only the remainder of the original warranty, unlike Bosch's rolling clock, and dealer-network speed was the saving grace. Out of warranty, water management and the independent repair scene are what make these bikes ownable.
