Bosch SX lightweight trail eMTB

The Whyte E-Lyte 150 2024 is the British brand's flagship lightweight carbon trail eMTB, built around the Bosch Performance Line SX motor (55 Nm, 250 W rated, 600 W peak, 2.0 kg) and a removable 400 Wh Bosch CompactTube battery. Travel is 150 mm front and 142 mm rear via a Horst Link layout, head angle 64.6°, and Whyte quotes a class-competitive 18.9 kg ride weight. UK pricing opens at £7,999 for the base and RSX trims, with the Works flagship at £9,999. The community verdict is strong on ride feel and Whyte's British engineering polish — and crucially the platform supports the Bosch PowerMore 250 Wh range extender, taking effective capacity to 650 Wh and addressing the small-battery question.
Drive system and range. The Bosch SX produces 55 Nm and 600 W peak, sharing the Smart System ecosystem with the full-power CX. @andyjayh articulates the broader case: "Bosch SX powered bikes (like Whyte E-Lyte) deliver 600W peak power while being light enough to ride with motor off; best current compromise between SL and full-fat eMTBs for older riders wanting gentle assistance with full-fat capability". The 400 Wh integrated battery is the headline limitation — @andyjayh documents real-world range: "18 miles / 4,000 ft on Whyte" in Auto mode (vs 23 miles / 5,500 ft on the Forbidden Druid E with the 800 Wh Avinox pack). The PowerMore 250 Wh extender is essentially mandatory for big-day rides. Expect 700-1,000 m of climbing on the stock pack.
Geometry and handling. A 64.6° head angle is squarely modern-trail. Reach progresses S 431 mm, M 456 mm, L 481 mm, XL 506 mm — generous 25 mm steps. Chainstay length is fixed at 450 mm across all sizes. Wheelbase grows from 1,215 mm on the S to 1,300 mm on the XL. The Shape.it Link V2 geometry adjustment chip allows fine-tuning. @Jdof compares chainstay numbers across rivals: "Whyte E-Lyte Wild 29/29 has 454 mm rear centre vs Forbidden CorE 29/27.5 at 442 mm rear centre, resulting in noticeably better cornering and agility on the CorE" — useful context for buyers prioritising playfulness.
Build and value. Three trims share the same chassis. The £7,999 base and RSX trims include Fox Float 36 Factory fork (150 mm), Fox Float X Factory shock, Hope Tech4 V4 four-piston brakes (British-made), and SRAM X0 Eagle Transmission AXS. The £9,999 Works flagship steps up further. @JJ765 highlights Whyte's commitment to British componentry: "Full power Bosch CX motor [on Stag Works], all British Hope components" — same philosophy applies to the E-Lyte. The Hope Tech4 V4 brake spec is the standout: among the best-stopping British-made brakes available, and consistent with the E-Lyte's "premium UK build" identity. @skizzian notes the RSX has been seen on sale at Leisure Lakes.
Community-verified strengths. Long-term reliability looks solid: @Ebikes-Unlimited reports "1,000 miles recorded with warranty valid until January 2027" on a 2024 RSX. @RichMorr confirms "All Whyte E-Lyte Evo models come with Bosch extender as it is needed to get full power from motor" — Whyte bundle the range extender to address the small battery upfront. @rider reports "obviously feels a bit weightier than my Whyte E-Lyte (20.5 kg vs 23.5 kg)" comparing against a full-power rival — confirming the E-Lyte's class-leading weight target. @rossctr notes Whyte is developing the DJI Avinox-powered Karve Evo as the next platform — current 2024 E-Lyte 150 stock will likely see attractive end-of-line pricing as that launches.
Caveats and known gripes. The 400 Wh battery is the biggest spec compromise — riders need to buy the £350 PowerMore range extender to get day-long capability. Bosch SX's 55 Nm is mid-pack against full-power motors, although the Smart System electronics are excellent. Whyte's UK dealer network is strong but North American and continental European support is thinner. The 450 mm fixed chainstay can feel long for shorter riders compared to the size-specific rears now common on Norco and Forbidden. The Bosch SX cadence-based power delivery has a learning curve.
Verdict. The E-Lyte 150 is for the rider who wants a properly-British carbon lightweight eMTB with Hope brakes, Fox Factory suspension, Bosch SX integration and sub-19 kg weight. It is not for buyers who need maximum power, big single-charge range without an extender, or anyone outside Whyte's strong UK-and-Ireland dealer network. Production status is current with 2024-spec stock available, although new platforms (Karve Evo) are on the horizon.
