EMTB Forums verdict

The Trek Fuel+ LX 2026 is the long-travel 29er configuration in Trek's Gen 2 Fuel+ platform family. Built around the TQ HPR60 motor (60 Nm, 250 W rated, 350 W peak, 1.924 kg) and a 580 Wh battery, the LX runs 140 mm front and rear travel in the gold base spec, with longer-travel rocker and lower-shock-mount options pushing to 170/160 mm per @Twisted Fork. Head angle is a notably slack 63.4-63.5°, reach progresses across five sizes (S-XXL) from 418 mm to 518 mm, and chainstays scale with size from 444 mm to 452 mm. UK pricing spans £7,800-£10,475 across four trims, with a €12,000 base spec at the very top. The community verdict is overwhelmingly positive — @Free54 has covered "1,000 km" already and reports "the bike is really quiet and stable; 1,500 m elevation gain is no problem."

Drive system and range. The TQ HPR60 is the updated version of the HPR50, sharing the same coaxial harmonic-pin-ring design but with torque bumped from 50 Nm to 60 Nm and peak power lifted to 350 W. @coregrind notes: "The increase in power with the HPR60 over the HPR50 is a nice gain". The motor remains the quietest in eMTB and delivers famously natural pedal feel. The 580 Wh battery is generously sized for a TQ-powered platform (smaller 360 Wh and 160 Wh range extender options are also available, per @Twisted Fork). Expect 1,200-1,700 m of climbing per charge. @dotcodotuk reports the Fuel+ LX 9.9 weighs "approximately 17.5 kg without battery" with easy battery removal — viable for battery-free riding when desired.

Geometry and handling. The 63.4-63.5° head angle is properly slack for a 140 mm-travel platform and signals Trek's intent: this is a confident, capable trail bike that punches above its travel category. Reach progresses S 418 mm, M 448 mm, L 473 mm, XL 498 mm, XXL 518 mm — five sizes is excellent for fit. Size-specific chainstays grow from 444 mm on S-L to 452 mm on XXL. Wheelbase opens 1,213-1,341 mm. The Fuel+ LX accepts mullet 29/27.5 or full-29 configurations and angle-adjust headsets, plus @Twisted Fork documents "adjustable shock progression ratios from 18.0% to 24.7% and HTA of 63.4-65.0 depending on rocker link and lower shock mount choice" — an extremely versatile chassis.

Build and value. Four mainstream trims and a base spec span £7,800 to ~€12,000. The 9.8 XT and 9.8 Eagle 90 at £7,800 are the value plays. The 9.8 XT Di2 at £9,150 adds Shimano electronic shifting. The 9.9 X0 AXS at £10,475 is the SRAM AXS Transmission version. @Victorius spotted the 9.8 XT Di2 at €10,199 in continental Europe with Fox coil and Fox 38 Factory suspension — an aggressive spec for a lightweight trail bike. The €12,000 base trim is the headline-spec configuration.

Community-verified strengths. @Free54 has 1,000 km on his LX without complaint, noting "the bike is really quiet and stable; 1,500 m elevation gain is no problem". @nickf articulates the broader case for SL/lightweight bikes elegantly: the Fuel+ "gives 'enough' support without destroying the natural sensation of pedalling with human leg effort". The platform's configurability across EX (150/145 mm 29er), MX (160/150 mm mullet) and LX (170/160 mm 29er) configurations from one frame is genuinely class-leading.

Caveats and known gripes. @Yobbo reports a recurring issue: "After 550 miles (880 km), the same loud drivetrain creak that the EXE has a reputation for" — the TQ motor family has a known creak that needs diagnosing through chainring, BB, and pedal interfaces. The TQ HPR60's 60 Nm is mid-pack against Bosch CX Gen 5 (120 Nm) and Specialized 3.1 (105 Nm) — riders chasing maximum punch should look elsewhere. The £7,800 entry trim is still serious money. TQ motor service network outside Germany and the US is thin. The 580 Wh battery is small compared to Bosch/DJI 800 Wh equivalents.

Verdict. The Fuel+ LX is for the rider who wants Trek's flexible single-frame, five-size, three-configuration lightweight platform with the quietest motor in eMTB, slack 63.4° head angle and 17.5 kg unloaded weight. It is not for buyers chasing maximum torque, anyone needing a deep TQ service network, or budget-focused riders. Production status is current and the Fuel+ Gen 2 is Trek's headline 2026 lightweight platform.
