Lightweight carbon eMTB with TQ HPR50 motor

The Scott Lumen 2025 is a carbon SL eMTB built around the TQ HPR50 motor and an integrated 360Wh battery. Headline numbers: 130mm fork, 130mm rear, TQ HPR50 at 50Nm and 300W peak from a 1.85kg motor, 17.8kg claimed on the eRIDE 910 entry trim, 65.5 degree head angle and reach 416 to 501mm across seven sized variants. Trim ladder: eRIDE 910 at GBP 6,489, eRIDE 920 at GBP 7,999 (18.1kg) and 900 SL at GBP 13,699. The community read is that the Lumen is one of the quietest, lightest TQ-powered downcountry/trail platforms on sale: @simonsmidt weighs his eRIDE 910 at 17.5kg, even lighter than the manufacturer claim.
Drive system and range. The TQ HPR50 is the lightest credible SL motor on the market: 50Nm of torque, 300W peak and a 1.85kg motor mass. It trades raw torque for an exceptionally low noise floor and a magnetic gearbox that adds a roughly 4kg total system penalty. The 360Wh integrated battery is not removable. @Roaming50 notes the newer HPR60 motor is not yet available in the US market: only the older HPR50 is sold. Range on 360Wh on a 130mm trail bike sits at one and a half to two and a half hours of mixed singletrack in mid-modes. @erider1 reports significant engine braking on the 910 when exceeding 20mph, a side-effect of the current 25mph speed limit programming.
Geometry and handling. 65.5 degrees up front is on the steep side of modern trail eMTB norms: confidently XC-leaning rather than slack and aggressive. Reach steps cleanly: 416 (S/SM), 446 (M/MD), 476 (L/LG), 501 (XL). Chainstays are a uniform 450mm and wheelbase tops out at 1270mm on XL. The single-pivot rear with TwinLoc-style Fox Nude damper integration is one of the Lumen's signatures: @Shark58 notes the traction control position reduces rear travel from 130mm to 90mm and raises the rear for climbing, fully integrated inside the frame.
Build and value. Three trims. eRIDE 910 (GBP 6,489, 17.8kg) is the entry: TQ HPR50 motor, 360Wh battery, RockShox or Fox 34-class fork and the Fox Nude shock with TwinLoc integration. eRIDE 920 (GBP 7,999, 18.1kg) steps up the build kit. The 900 SL (GBP 13,699) is the carbon flagship with top-tier suspension and AXS Transmission. Standout: sub-18kg with a quiet, refined TQ HPR50 platform is among the best SL packages on sale. Questionable: 360Wh non-removable battery limits big-day range; large headset-related gaps reported (see caveats).
Community-verified strengths.
- Sub-18kg system weight. @simonsmidt confirms 17.5kg weighed reality on the 910, even lower than the claim.
- Quiet drivetrain. @skizzian describes the TQ motor as "very quiet", a defining Lumen characteristic.
- Owner upgrade scope. @SaabaruAero on a 905 with carbon rims, XT four-pot brakes, Fox 34 Kashima and Racer's tape protection demonstrates the headroom available to a serious upgrader.
Caveats and known gripes.
- Motor reliability concern. @Borut reports a Lumen motor failed three times requiring two motor replacements before being sold on.
- Engine braking above 20mph. @erider1 reports the 910 generates significant engine braking when exceeding 20mph due to current speed limit programming: affects fast descents and road sections.
- Headset gap issue. @erider1 reports a visible gap around the headset on the eRIDE 910 from new, allowing moisture and debris ingress and shortening headset life. Reported as a design issue, not bike-specific.
- Crank options. @trailrunnerx notes TQ-compatible crank options are limited, mainly Race Face.
- 360Wh integrated battery. Not removable; charging on-bike only. No range extender path matches Specialized Levo SL's MasterMind/Range Extender system.
- HPR60 unavailable in US. @Roaming50 flags the newer-spec HPR60 is not yet sold on the 900 SL in the US, so buyers needing the latest TQ should confirm market availability.
Verdict. The 2025 Lumen is one of the most refined SL trail/downcountry eMTBs on sale, with the quietest TQ HPR50 motor, a sub-18kg carbon frame and seven sized fit options. It suits riders who value the lightest possible eMTB with analogue ride feel, who ride mostly XC, trail centres and moderate natural terrain. Buyers chasing 600Wh-plus battery, slack-and-low geometry or full-power torque should look at the Trek Fuel EXe (HPR60), Specialized Levo SL or full-power Bosch SX rivals. Production status: current.
