TQ HPR50 lightweight carbon trail/XC eMTB, 360Wh

The Scott Lumen eRide 2024 is a featherweight carbon lightweight eMTB built around the TQ HPR50 motor, sitting firmly at the cross-country / downcountry end of the assist-bike segment. Headline numbers: 50 Nm of torque, 300 W manufacturer-claimed peak, 360 Wh non-removable TQ HPR battery, 130 mm of travel front and rear, a 64.9 to 65.5 degree head angle, 15.5 kg claimed and a £5,699 base price. The community read on the Lumen is broadly positive on weight and motor character (TQ is famously quiet), with motor-reliability concerns and battery-size limits being the most-flagged caveats.
Drive system and range. The TQ HPR50 is the segment's quietest motor by general consensus, with 50 Nm of torque, a 300 W manufacturer-claimed peak and a class-leading 1.85 kg motor weight. skizzian rates the TQ as "very quiet, around £4k for 2025 sale model, XC focused, not designed for big stuff" — capturing exactly the bike's intended use. The 360 Wh non-removable battery is small by 2024 standards (the Bosch SX comparable is 400 Wh removable), and Roaming50 notes the newer HPR60 is unavailable in the US market — only the older HPR50 is offered. erider1 flags "significant engine braking when exceeding 20 mph" on the 910 trim — a real-world friction characteristic above the assist cap.
Geometry and handling. The Lumen comes in four physical sizes (S, M, L, XL) with eight effective sizes via low/high geometry flips. Reach progresses from 416 mm (S) up to 501 mm (XL). The head angle floats between 64.9 and 65.5 degrees depending on size and configuration — appropriate for the downcountry brief but conservative for any trail-leaning riding. The 450 mm chainstay is fixed across sizes and the wheelbase runs from 1,176 mm to 1,270 mm. The Scott Fox Nude shock with traction-control mode is the headline kinematic feature: Shark58 explains "the Fox Nude damper traction control position reduces rear travel from 130 mm to 90 mm and raises rear for climbing; fully integrated inside frame, cannot be accessed without remote cable".
Build and value. One base trim is on file at £5,699. SaabaruAero measures the Lumen 905 at "17.24 kg (38 lb) with Ritchey WCS Trail bar swap; the 900 model is lighter than the 905" — a useful spec hierarchy note. SaabaruAero upgrades the 905 with "carbon rims, XT 4-pot brakes, Fox 34 Kashima fork, covered in Racer's tape protection" — typical Lumen owner refinements.
Community-verified strengths. First, weight: 15.5 kg claimed (and 17.24 kg measured on a 905) is exceptional for the segment. Second, motor quietness: TQ HPR50 is the segment's quietest. Third, the Fox Nude traction-control mode genuinely improves seated climbing efficiency.
Caveats and known gripes. First, motor reliability concerns: Borut reports "Motor failed 3 times requiring 2x motor replacements before being sold". Second, headset durability: erider1 reports a "gap around headset visible from new, introducing moisture and debris, shortening headset life — design issue not specific to individual bikes". Third, the 360 Wh non-removable battery (small, can't quick-swap). Fourth, crank-arm compatibility: trailrunnerx reports the Lumen 910 (size S) comes with 175 mm cranks and "limited TQ-compatible options, mainly Race Face".
Verdict. The Scott Lumen eRide 2024 suits XC and downcountry riders who specifically want the TQ HPR50's quietness and weight, the integrated Fox Nude traction-control mode, and Scott's deep cross-country ride feel. Less suitable for trail-leaning riders who need more travel, larger battery capacity, or who want the more recent HPR60 motor system (only available outside the US). Production status: current. Pre-purchase, verify Scott's current motor and headset warranty position in your region.
