EMTB Forums verdict

The Rotwild R.X1000 FS 2025 is the German specialist's flagship all-mountain eMTB, built around the Pinion MGU (E1.12) motor and gearbox unit (85 Nm torque, 250 W rated, 600 W manufacturer-claimed peak, 4.1 kg motor weight) and an 800 Wh battery. Travel is 150 mm front and 150 mm rear on a carbon chassis with 4-bar suspension. Single base trim at £10,999, claimed weight 24.7 kg. Four sizes from S to XL, reach 405-500 mm, head angle 66.0 degrees flat, chainstays 445 mm, wheelbase 1172-1270 mm. The community read in one line: a properly considered German all-mountain platform with the Pinion MGU motor-gearbox combination, premium carbon construction and the longest-distance touring intent in the category.

Drive system and range. The Pinion MGU E1.12 is the headline — a combined motor and 12-speed internal gearbox in a single unit, eliminating the rear derailleur and cassette in favour of a sealed gearbox with a belt drive. 85 Nm torque, 600 W peak, 4.1 kg motor weight. Belt drive plus internal gearbox means no chain stretch, no derailleur hangers, no cassette wear, and the ability to shift under load with the bike stationary. The 800 Wh battery (or larger options on some Rotwild trims) is removable for off-bike charging. Real-world range will sit in the 60 to 90 km territory on Trail/Tour mode, with extreme cases pushing further on Eco — the larger Rotwild platform is genuinely designed for long-distance touring rather than aggressive descending.

Geometry and handling. Trail-focused. 66.0 degree head angle is on the steeper side of modern all-mountain (typical norms are 64.5 to 65.5), suiting touring/trail rather than enduro intent. Reach steps through 405 mm (S), 437 mm (M), 468 mm (L), and 500 mm (XL) — a generous spread but conservative numbers by 2025 standards. Chainstays held at 445 mm flat across all four sizes. Wheelbase 1172 to 1270 mm. Full 29er expected. The geometry is tuned for stable, predictable handling rather than aggressive descents.

Build and value. Single base trim at £10,999 (24.7 kg). At this premium price expect Fox Factory or RockShox Ultimate suspension at 150 mm front and rear, Magura MT7 or Shimano XT four-piston brakes with 200 mm rotors, and the integrated Pinion shifter (no rear derailleur or cassette). Rotwild's carbon frame quality is excellent and the platform is genuinely premium, but £10,999 is a meaningful investment with no upgrade ladder within the model line.

Caveats and known gripes.

  • Pinion MGU motor noise is the most commonly flagged issue. Multiple test riders note "harsh, noticeable motor noise" in lower gears, though it quietens in higher gears. The MGU drivetrain is significantly noisier than Bosch CX Gen 5 or DJI Avinox.
  • £10,999 for a single base trim is premium pricing with no entry-level option. Comparable carbon all-mountain platforms with mainstream motors (Bosch CX Gen 5, Shimano EP801) come in £2,000 to £4,000 cheaper.
  • 66.0 degree head angle is conservative by modern all-mountain standards. Riders wanting modern slack geometry will find this dated.
  • 4.1 kg Pinion MGU pushes the bike weight to 24.7 kg in a 150/150 mm carbon chassis — comparable bikes with conventional drivetrains come in 1-3 kg lighter at similar travel and price.
  • Pinion MGU is V1.0 technology. Long-term reliability story is still being written, and aftermarket service support outside Germany is thin.
  • No community forum data yet for this specific Rotwild platform.

Verdict. The Rotwild R.X1000 FS 2025 is a thoughtful, premium German all-mountain eMTB designed primarily for long-distance touring and Alpine adventures, with the Pinion MGU gearbox-motor as the headline. It suits riders in Germany or central Europe with strong local Rotwild dealer support, who value the gearbox simplicity (no chain wear, shifting at stop, sealed internals), and who prioritise touring range over aggressive descending. Look elsewhere if you want the quietest drivetrain, modern slack geometry, or premium pricing with multiple trim options. Production status: current, single base trim, four sizes.
