Aluminium enduro eMTB with Shimano EP801 (85Nm/600W) and 626Wh battery; configurable build

The Propain Ekano 2 2025 is a German direct-to-consumer carbon enduro eMTB built around the Shimano EP801 motor and an 800 Wh DJI Avinox FP800 battery. Headline numbers: 180 mm of fork travel, 170 mm at the rear, 22.8 kg claimed on the base trim, 85 Nm of EP801 torque, a 64 degree head angle, size-tuned chainstays growing 453 mm to 458 mm and reach progression from 435 mm to 512 mm across 9 size configurations. Production status: discontinued (replaced by the Ekano 3 platform). The community framing is positive on the chassis: A forum thread describes the Ekano as "a heavy hitter" with 180/170 mm of travel and noteworthy 40 per cent progression through the rear travel.
Drive system and range. Shimano EP801 delivers 85 Nm of torque, 250 W nominal and a manufacturer-claimed 600 W peak from a 2.7 kg motor. The DJI Avinox FP800 800 Wh removable battery is a cross-platform choice that Propain uses across multiple frames. @501AM notes the Ekano AL Enduro shipped with a 600 Wh battery standard and 800 Wh as an option, with total weight over 24 kg on the 800 Wh build. Real-world range on EP801 at 800 Wh on a 180/170 mm chassis in enduro use typically lands 35 to 55 km depending on assist, vert and rider weight.
Geometry and handling. A 64 degree head angle is properly modern enduro, in line with mainstream rivals at this travel. Reach progression is exceptional: SM and S options at 435 to 437 mm, MD and M at 455 to 462 mm, LG and L at 475 to 487 mm and three XL options at 495 to 512 mm with the size-tuned 453 or 458 mm chainstays. Wheelbases stretch 1239 to 1335 mm. The Ekano 2's standout kinematic feature is the 40 per cent rear-travel progression: a forum technical post notes this massive progression with the stock air shock means the bike pairs naturally with an air shock rather than coil.
Build and value. Three trims at discontinuation. The AL GX at £5889, 23.5 kg, the base build at £6499, 22.8 kg with the spec on file (FOX 38 Factory GRIP2 Kashima, FOX DHX2 Factory coil, Magura MT7 four-piston brakes and SRAM X0 Eagle AXS Transmission), and the CF Ultimate top trim at £9999, 23.4 kg. Note that the base trim ships with the Fox DHX2 coil shock, which on a 40 per cent progressive chassis is an unusual specification: most riders would expect an air shock here, but the spec is unique to Propain's tuning. @whitymon notes the Ekano 2 CF (a SRAM Powertrain variant) saw end-of-summer discounting with a free range extender and additional 20 per cent off, indicating stock clearance during the transition to the Ekano 3.
Community-verified strengths. Three things owners praise. @mane documents using the Ekano 2 for gap-jump progression up to 4 metres including river and canyon gaps: real-world capability confirmation for the long-travel chassis. The configurator-based custom build is a Propain signature: buyers can spec exactly what they want. And the 9-size matrix is industry-leading for fit accommodation.
Caveats and known gripes. Three honest flags. Production is discontinued: the Ekano 2 has been replaced by the Ekano 3, which carries fresh Avinox or other newer motor options. @Nomadic Dad notes the related Ekano 3 AL weighs 25.48 kg in size Large at top spec, suggesting the platform is on the heavier side of the segment. @Yotaismygame documents Propain's website checkout process as "a shit show" with frames sold out during the 45 minute checkout: ordering process friction is real. And dealer footprint outside Germany is thin, with most international buyers shipping direct.
Verdict. The Propain Ekano 2 2025 is for the second-hand or end-of-range buyer who finds a discounted Ekano 2 and wants a properly long-travel 180/170 mm carbon enduro chassis with the EP801 motor, 800 Wh battery and Propain's signature custom configurator builds. Production is discontinued, with the Ekano 3 sitting above as the current platform. If buying new, look at the Ekano 3 with the latest motor or rivals like the Cannondale Moterra LT, Canyon Torque:ON or Pivot Shuttle LT.
